Steering wheel stolen

Hi Guys!
Recently some idiot broke my driver window and stole my steering wheel (M sport). BMW are giving me a bill of 1800 for just the steering wheel plus labour. I feel that is way too much. Can anyone suggest what i should do? Will a 4 series steering wheel. i found one on ebay but when i asked a BMW engineer he says that it will be coded for a 4 and not a 6 so will give errors.

one option is to buy them online used.

Here is a listing on ebay, but note that it is shipping from Latvia. It may be stolen from someone else, but at least it's a lot cheaper.

I believe the 4 series is a different wheel - you should avoid going down that road. You may be able to go backwards and use a non m wheel from a scrapper.

Unfortunately everyone wants that m wheel from our cars, and the market responds with high pricing.

Did they take the airbag too? Or was that really what they wanted? I know that the last time I looked for a steering wheel (back when I had a Supra), they were like $800 - so $1,800 with airbag sounds about right.

took the airbag too! Brand new full replacement is £2200. £1800 was without paddle shifters. the airbag on its own is about £750

Wow - I guess the first thing I'd do is stop parking wherever that happened! Not only was someone sketchy lurking, but they had enough time to break in and steal a steering wheel!

I'd just replace it the right way - you're bound to have some issues if you start trying to mixing and matching, and if you intend to sell it some day, that's going to be a potential problem, too.

yes i am going to get it done correctly. luckily found a reputable seller on ebay who is selling a brand new wheel for a third of the cost. ordered it. Fingers crossed no issues. I'll post back on the results.
And thanks to this i am now moving. that was the plan anyway but this is brought up my timescale a lot

Where should we avoid living (or in other words where are you moving away from?)
