Winter Wheels/ Snow Tires

O.K., believe it or not, it's time for me to start planning my winter wheel/tire setup. 2016 M6 GC.

The local tire guys have suggested I consider some Beyern wheels for winter (their mesh or "Rapp" designs). Their general view is to use cheap, sturdy (meaning heavy) wheels for winter, because they will do better with potholes etc. and I will care less when they get screwed up.

I think they'll recommending non-staggered 255s all around, maybe with 19" wheels and higher-profile tires to protect the wheels instead of the summer 20" wheels.

I've had Dunlop Wintersports on other cars. What do others use?

Does anybody here have experience with Beyern wheels? Other ideas?

I just started looking also.
i was looking to get 255/35R20 Blizzak LM32 with rims from Tire rack.
I have heard a lot of good reviews on Blizzak. Don't have any info about Beyern wheel.

I ran 265 - 20's Dunlop Winter Sport last year and was very happy. Added spacers on back wheels.

+1 on:

1) Slightly smaller rims for winter use;
2) Blizzak; and
3) Tire Rack

Tire Rack is a great resource for all things tire-related. See this review of winter tires. Your needs may be very different from mine, so the review may provide valuable insight.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like 19" are the way to go.

I would think the more sidewall the better. If you are posing, get 22s and lots of spare rims.

I used to refer to my winter setup with smaller wheels and narrower tires as bicycle tires on my old car. I guess 19" 265s or even 255s still won't qualify as narrow....

I'm sure all the sunbelters are smiling, thinking "Now do you see why I live in this heat? All summer setup, all the time!"

I'm told I might have my car this weekend. I haven't pulled the trigger on tires yet. I'm betting it will be Blizzak 255s on 19" wheels.

Do we know anything about Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 winter tires? Never heard of them, but my tire shop says they like them.

Hakkapelittas are GREAT snow tires if you can find them in the right size!

255/ 35s on 20s. BTW, the tire shop says an M6 doesn't work on 19s. Something about needing to brake.

Similar question too was would this wheel off of 2015 BMW X5 / X3 M Sport OEM 19'' Wheels fit on our M6? BMW dealer couldn't tell me the answer.
Wheels are 19in x 8.5in wide , 5 lug x 120mm bolt pattern , +38mm offset
