Updates to my M6....

Hey Guys,

Did some updates to my M6. Really had a hard time spending 9k to put in a new BMW exhaust.. just to get the Carbon Fiber exhaust tips and a louder exhaust. I did a couple of improvements...

First I installed the exhaustmeister. I have to say, listening to a friend of mine who also has m6 but spent 7k on a after market exhaust, the stock BMW exhaust with the valves open is about 95% as loud and just as aggressive sounding. The only difference is I am able to quiet things down when I am on a long trip. No matter what the after market exhaust guys say, their exhaust is much louder when at highway speeds.

Next I did not care for the stock exhaust tips.. but simply could not justify thousands for a after market exhaust just for cool looking tips... so I purchased these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-F10-M5-B...3921c0&vxp=mtr

Then I clear coated them (they come flat), which cost about $15 dollars in materials and a little elbow grease.

Finally I installed the BMW Carbon Fiber OEM diffuser..... and these are the results:

Also I have the factory non-upgraded sound system. Folks.... save your 4k on the upgraded B&O. I added a 10 inch sub and combined with a little tuning from my sound folks.. it sounds about 150% better than the B&O upgraded system.

Hope this give guys some ideas....

Wow, nice looking ass you got there. I totally agree on the B&O, definitely not worth the money. But a complete exhaust system can be an entirely different beast. Installing the M Performance/Akra exhaust on my car was easily the best decision I've made. Went to a meet near my area where I compared the sound to a stock M5 and it's not even close. That M5 has since been fitted with an Akra as well. The biggest difference is the character of this exhaust when you approach redline, and right after you shift, it has completely different growls, crackles, and pops. Not just louder than stock but also with a more exotic character. Nice find on the tips though. For those looking to simply change the look of the stock exhaust it seems to be a nice, inexpensive solution.

I agree! And downpipes just unleash those sounds even more

Thanks... I agree that exhaust makes things sound better and maybe a little more performance.. but I am not sure 9k in sound improvements or performance improvements... again just personal opinion. I was just so surprised how great our BMW exhaust sounds with the valves open..

I believe that's the M Performance Rear Diffuser. EAS has it listed at $1,100

It's M Performance rear CF diffuser. your local dealer must have it for 990!.

Congrats, love the updates - great ride. I just got an Eisenmann Sport exhaust for the M6 on order - will definitely let you know how it compares to the stock with an Exhaust Meister (which I felt was pretty much the same with the windows up). Love your rear diffuser.. crazy stunning, might have to do that at some point.

Hey Guys... sorry for the delays in responding. Yes the diffuser is the BMW OEM diffuser, paid $1164 installed which took all but 20 minutes for the tech to install. I looked at all of the diffusers around and I kinda loved the BMW one... not too over the top, just looks good. I know it might not be popular around here, but I try to keep my cars as stock looking as possible. In fact my 10 inch sub, I had three people look at the car inside and out and they could not even find it.

I like the diffuser too. I like this and the Arkym diffuser. They look very similar I think.

Hey, this tip was really interesting on the sub as I find I could do with a touch more power to my sound system - especially with the roof down.

Can you tell us how / where the sub was added?

Thanks

Sure.. basically if you look at the rear armrest that does not come down.. between the two seats... the inter leather strip was removed and speaker cloth was used to replace it. speaker was mounted behind that with a fairly flat box. I will take some pictures of it in the next week. Also in the useless ashtray by the iDrive controller, we put a base control knob so I could adjust the base on the sub independent of the iDrive. I was simply blown away by the results. The stock system focuses on the high's and mids.... the sub takes care of the lows.
