Radar-Mirror

Thinking about having a 9500ci with the "Radar-Mirror" display installed on my 650ix GC. Curious if anyone has installed one of these on their 6er and can offer any thoughts and feedback from direct experience with it.

Had it in my M5 and loved it. I have the Bel-Stir, which is basically the same as the Passport with a few minor differences. I took my system out of the the M5 and put in my 650 xDrive coupe, but didn't use the radar mirror this time b/c I leased the 650 and didn't want to go through the hassle of interchanging the mirrors. I highly recommend the radar mirror and stealth install of the system.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to go with it. Having install done next week, will post photos.

Looks interesting. Does it get power through the mirror or do you have to run additional wire down the columns?

They have two options, you can either buy the kit with an altered mirror (supposedly matching) already included, or you can have your factory-mirror altered. If option 1, they charge a "core deposit" that is refunded when you send your factory mirror to them as a trade for the one they included in the kit. If option 2, the installer overnight's your mirror to them, they alter it, and overnight it back to installer. I'm going with option 2 so I'm certain I get the identical matching mirror.

Have the ValentineOne installed in my E39 M5 mirror, it's great as the sensor is hidden in the rear centre head rest. However, I don't think I'll be doing this to the M6 because there is nowhere to hide the receiver.

The ValentineOne is 'self contained' you connect the V1 to power and it powers the remote display (in the mirror) and remote control via what look like standard telephone RJ11 connectors. You thus have an extra wire going to the mirror, but it's easy to hide and behind the headliner and down the A pillar.

Do you still have to mount the detector somewhere and just a display goes into the mirror? I'm confused where the actual detector is.

The mirror is just a display, at least with the V1. You need to mount the detector somewhere else.

That seems pointless then. Car manufacturers need to put a small compartment at the top of the dash where you put a detector, which plugs into somewhere directly in the compartment. With the connection, it would then be powered as well as integrate with the car for display on the navi screen, dash, or heads up display.

The 9500ci is custom install. The sensors are remote mounted in the front/rear of the car and are fed back to a hidden master control unit. The display gets integrated into the mirror and a small control panel gets mounted somewhere in/around the dash. I'm having mine mounted inside the small storage behind the iDrive controller.

Yeah, right. I can't even imagine the number of caution labels pasted all over that feature warning against its use for "defeating radar" and "non-advocation of speeding" and "for phone charging only".

Got the install done last Friday and very happy with how it turned out. Installer did an excellent job with the stealth. Front laser shifters are recessed into front lower grill, radar receiver hidden behind front bumper, USB for software updates under dash near diagnostics port, GPS antenna in far right corner of rear deck, rear laser shifter above the license plate, control panel hidden in small storage container, and of course. . . display mounted inside rearview mirror. Install very clean, no marks/blemishes or visible cables, and all trim put back seamlessly. Here are a couple pics, sorry for poor quality as I took them quickly with my phone.

Is the radar antenna behind the bumper or the lower grill?

You may have some issues with the effectiveness of the laser jammers. Laser is not used in PA, but is used in all the states bordering PA.
