650I CD changer (2008)

My 6 disc factory CD changer located in the glove compartment will not play .mp3 discs. The dealer says this is normal and there is no way to upgrade it. I find this strange since my 2006 Benz and 2007 Toyota changers both play .mp3 discs.

Anyone have a suggestion? ........

Should be possible to connect an iPod/iPhone directly on a 2008?
