6 series dead?

The rumour mill is suggesting that BMW is killing the 6 series, and launching the 8 series to compete with the S class coupe. I hope that is not true, as I think there is a market for the 6. It has been a slow seller, because, in my opinion, it is way overpriced. I think if BMW re-do the 6 based of the new 5er, and price it to compete with the E class coupe, it could be a sales success. Am I crazy?

I don't know what the situation is in Canada or the US but significant discounts are standard in the UK. I got £16k off my Sep 2016 F12 640i which brings it very close to 5 series money.

Here in Canada, the 6 series starts at just over 100 grand, (only the 650 X drive available here) but to put that in perspective, the E class V6 coupe starts at $69,400 and $77,400 for the V8. You can make the argument that the 6 series is superior to the E coupe, but at nearly 30 grand more money, it is a hard sell.

For me the 6 series was/is the car that escaped the family face of BMW and was the "odd one out" to compete against the CLS, Panamera and A7. As others have pointed out though the base price of the 6 standard is insane. Lucky it is all nonsense as in real terms it helps keep prices more buoyant, flipside I have found a 6 more to insure than a 5.

But I love it more than I could an F10/11 5.

I would like it if they re-introduced the 8 series.

Something tells me an M8 would be a Ferrari slayer.

I dont think it will be dead because 6er is in the same group as 5er but 2 doors.
BMW did say many years ago that 2,4,6,8 will be the 2 doors of 1,3,5,7.
also it would be odd to leave a number out.
7er dont have a 2 door so they must make a 8er

I hope they do stop making 6 series... gives me good reason to keep mine longer and resale value will hopefully stabilize....

Thank you. When the GC came out a lot of people were head over heels for it but now when parked side by side the real coupe does seem to have more panache than the sedan. Glad I kept my 2 door!

I heard about 8 series as well but if that's the truth, 8 series must be most likely something to compete with roadster cars like SL or 911 . & series is already there to compete with S class and is the good competitor. I believe 6 series will be still the competitor of CLS or A7/S7. And it doesn't make sense BMW wants to lose the number 6 in sequential 1 to 7 series and replace it with 8 series....

cant see the 6 being dropped, can see it becoming lighter and perhaps smaller, the 8 like stated above will compete with larger stuff like the S Class Coupe / Bentley C/GT which the 6 couldn't really do
