2014 650i xdrive coupe things to mod

Hey all. My brother in law has a 2014 650i xdrive coupe which was his first love. It's seen some better days - mechanically it's sound, but visually a little beat up (scratched and swirled paint, curbed wheels, etc). Picture below (apologies for the terrible picture).

He wants to freshen it up and give it new life, so I thought I'd help him out by putting together a list of things he should consider doing to it. I'm not super familiar with the F13 platform, so hoping ya'll can provide some guidance.

Here's my thoughts:

Paint correction
Full detailing interior + exterior
Ceramic coating
New wheels - 20" all around (any guidance on possible widths and offsets?)
New summer tires (currently has 245 box setup... any possibility for wider and staggered tires?)
Ride height drop (thinking H&R sport springs)
CF diffuser
CF lip wing
Cf front lip

I think these are relatively subtle mods but will really transform the look of the car and bring it new life. Any thoughts or additional suggestions much appreciated!

Can't tell from the pic if the paint can be made good enough to make ceramic coat worth the cost. A much cheaper, but pretty long-lasting option is a Graphene coating you self-apply, like 303 Graphene, which is what I use. Can be bought at most any auto parts store. Or for a bit more money and effort, GTechnics Crystal Serum Lite is a DIYable ceramic coat.

As for staggered wheels, since the car is XDrive you just need to be mindful that the final rolling diameter has to be very close to the same front and rear so as not to stress the drivetrain. I forget the percentage, but there are lots of posts on this subject, or somebody else will chime in. And there are websites that can run calculations for you - like "Will it Fit".

Thanks. Yeah I'll have to have a detailing shop take a look at it to see if paint correction is enough or if certain areas need to be repainted (the front bumper may need to be repainted)

Bump

Hoping to get some thoughts.

Has anyone run something like 245x35x20 front and 275x30x20 rear? And any thoughts on offset? would like a nice aggressive look but without rubbing issues.

If I lowered my car from stock even 1/2" I would literally have to keep a stock of new front bumpers on hand the way the cross-street drainage is designed here. I don't know where all the people with lowered 6s live, but not in my area. I have to slow to less than walking speed to cross a lot of side-street intersections and I've still scraped it at least 100 times. .

I wish my car still had the Luxery smooth cruise feeling not this bumpy ass crap. But that’s just me.

Also it’s so low I have to drive it like it’s a Ferrari on every driveway.
Interesting... I wonder why? My G80 is dropped on H&R sports and the ride is excellent. Handles like a dream and isn't any harsher than stock suspension. From the looks of it the H&R springs for the f13 are actually less of a drop than the ones for the g80. Curious why it feels so bad on the f13 but so good on the g80.

The g80 has different suspension system and chassis, I imagine it can accommodate the lower and stiffer springs with adapting to whatever spring new rate. The 6 series is not an M or sport oriented suspension it’s more for all purpose mostly focus on comfort. The sport mode “stiffens the suspension” but I drive in comfort 99% of the time.

One thing I’ve learned from all my Bimmers is don’t mess with their air flow/intakes, or suspension unless you’re doing a full coilover swap, or dropping 1-2k on a venturi intake.

Anyone with a staggered 20" oe wheels/tires for the f12/f13/f06 came with those size tires...so yes...many owners are running those.

For the wheel offset range, simply go to one of the online part database sites like www.realoem.com or www.bimmercat.com and pull up the wheel diagrams. You'll see ALL of the wheels that were offered for the F chassis 6 series...and the wheel offset of every wheel is listed in the part nbr index below the diagram for each wheel.

I think most of the 20" staggered wheels have the offsets listed below...again, you can double check/verify at this link...select any of the 20" wheels to get their specs: https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/search/...iX+N63N/USA/36
  • 33mm offset (front)
  • 44mm offset (rear)
