Front Reflector Mod

I just received painted front reflectors. Has anyone tried this themselves or should I let the dealer do it? It was pretty easy on my F10 M with cameras. Someone posted instructions. I'll give it a go and post what I find.

I did it by myself. It's pretty easy. screwdrivers and small a small knife are all you need.

This was much easier than I expected. There are 3 screws (8mm socket) just inside the fender. Turn the wheel to gain better access. The screws are different lengths so keep track of them. With the 3 screws removed the liner can be pulled back enough to get a hand inside the fender. The reflector is held in place by adhesive tape. Simply push on one end of the reflector and catch it with the hand inside the fender. If you drop it, you may be creating more work for yourself. Remove any adhesive tape left on the fender. You can just pull it off by hand. I cleaned surface with alcohol. Just pass the new reflector through the hole and press into place. The camera is easy to work around.

Why do US cars need these reflectors actually??? I'm sorry for you guys, but its so ugly!
Is it on all cars? If it is, then can you just paint them? would't that make the car 'illegal' -so to say-?

It should probably be noted that this mod is not street legal in the US.

I'm not sure what is worse: the idea that the vehicle is unsafe without reflectors or the fact that BMW decided to make special US bumpers. I don't understand why they don't just put them in the headlight like Audi. Mercedes just adheres them to the outside and they are easily removed.

All BMWs sold in NA have this ugly reflectors. As for the reasons, it is just for damn safety issues probably. Personally, I can not understand about it. Just like why all NA bmws do not have auto folding mirrors with confort access.

I do not see what safety role can it play?
Bought painted reflectors from IND. No reflector front but I keep the rear one.

US DoT safety specifications. They are required.

I have frozen bronze reflectors from IND sitting in my garage for almost a year now and am yet to install them. Was going to ask the dealer to do it but might as well do it myself after reading this.
