My favourite wheels are actually the standard 433M's you get on the GC but again, these are very heavy (didn't realise they were heavier than the 601's though). Competition Pack is a huge improvement over my 2012 M6 (which was one of the early launch cars); the steering in that really was very poor - slow, poorly weighted and lacking in feel and was the main reason why I swapped it. But BMW massively improved the standard car in March 2013 so I guess the gap has closed (in any case, all GC's benefit from this). Slightly louder exhaust, stiffer suspension and that colossal 15hp increase are all small nice-to-haves, nothing more. But then you know that didn't you maccer |

Fitted the M-Performance rear spoiler, I think it looks really good and completes the look of the rear end.

It will look good if you like the red-black combo
I can take more mirror pics for you, if you want.

After a bit of a saga with BMW regarding the 601M wheels that are part of the competition pack, they have been replaced by BMW for 343M's. I think I marginally prefer the looks of the 601Ms, probably just because there are quite a few wheels that look very similar to the 343Ms. But it's still no comparison when it comes to strength and weight.
The rear looks a lot more aggressive with the summer wheels on now that there isn't such a noticeable inset as there is with the winters. I picked up a pretty large and visible mark in the PaintShield film, it would have undoubtedly caused a big stone chip without the film. A replacement for the PaintShield film on the bonnet and the unsightly stone mark has vanished. The film had been punctured, but there was no mark in the paint, so the film has done it's job very well. |

You were lucky Richard, I have picked up a few minor chips here and there.
Those wheels IMO look way better, I have them also. Side note: I am thinking M6 coupe next, what do you think?. I am a bit concerned about rear visibility and feeling claustrophobic looking out of the front screen with black head linings.

I guess the M6 depends if you use the rear seats at all. Unless the front occupants re under 5'6" there is very little leg room.
I don't find rear visibility a problem at all. Most modern cars have a high boot line which restricts rear visibility. With PDC, the rear view camera and 'top view' there is no problem. Due to the low roof line and more highly raked windscreen you can end up quite close to the front edge of the headliner, where the sun visors are, which is lower than the rest. It does not bother me at all, but you should get an extended test drive to see how you feel. I like dark interiors, to me it makes the car seem smaller and makes you focus more on what's happening outside. The thing I notice most regarding forward visibility is that due to the windscreen rake and dash design, there can be quite a few reflections in the windscreen, more so than in, say, my E39. Some of this is the cut out for the HUD unit, which will be similar to the F10 M5, some is the B&O speaker, some the monitor surround etc. You learn to look 'through' it, but if the windscreen is at all dirty on the inside it is significant. Keeping the screen clean is not easy either, due to the rake and proximity of the dash, you really need a well trained pygmy marmoset that can get it's hands into the tiny gaps! Well, I finally got the M6 on track to stretch it's legs a bit and see what it could do.
Track day at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, probably not the ideal track for such a big heavy bus as it's rather narrow and twisty, but bloody good fun! I videoed 2 sessions, the two last out. Unfortunately we were let out of the pits in sequence and I was behind a reasonably rapid (but slower than me, especially on the straits!) 335i touring which did not seem to have listened to the briefing about overtaking. The first of the two I managed to get past, even though he did not invite me to do so, the second I was stuck behind him the entire session which was very frustrating. I tried backing right off for a lap, but I caught him up again pretty quickly. The first of the two sessions I was relatively light on the brakes as I did not know how they would hold up, after seeing that they were fine, if rather hot (and popping off the front wheel centre caps with some considerable force!) the plan was to be harder on them in the last session. Unfortunately matey in the 335i rather spoilt that. Everything held up perfectly, everyone else I spoke to said that they had brake issues, mine held up fine! Very happy with the way she handled the day. I ran the M-Laptimer app with gives you quite an interesting playback of the session, showing lap time and speed, fuel consumption, throttle, RPM, brake, steering angle and G force around the track. It also shows the trace of the vehicle location on the main monitor, which becomes a track layout diagram after the first lap, which I had on for the first video or the G force which I had on for the second session. Here's a screen shot from my iPhone afterwards, you can play back the session too, but I don;t know how to grab a video of an iPhone screen without a mac! This was the result on fuel consumption, the 24 is the long term average, which had come down quite a bit! Here are the videos, I'm not sure what the annoying clicking is, I could not hear it at the time so I assume it's the GoPro camera moving around in it's housing. Anyway, enjoy! |

That looks great! Too bad about the 335 determined not to let anybody overtake him; but still looks fantastic good fun.
