6er was unique if is not now. Remember this car has been in market since 2011...now we are in 2015

Why not just use a fixed camera and save the space for the pull-down? Perhaps there's a packaging issue with the lifting/closing system?

Maybe I can shed some light on this when I get my M5 and take a closer look.
There may well be commonality between the pull down mech & the roundel parts. But the fact of the matter is BMW made the bad decision to give only the 6 series the hidden camera at the cost of losing the power trunk. And as I think we can all agree, there is no practical reason for the motorized roundel, we are left with the James Bond cool factor as the reason, which is disappointing as German cars used to mean form follows function. And if they are able to put a power trunk in the 5/7 series in which the 6 is based, I doubt there were packaging issues that prevented the 6 from getting it.

Enjoy slamming your trunk. Guess you don't understand the criticism of having power everything, but having this omitted for no good reason.

Looking at my car this morning, I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that the license plate sits low in the bumper as opposed to the trunk lid of other cars. The cameras are usually tucked up in the plate recess area and perhaps it's just too low on the 6 series to get a proper "view". So the only alternative was to have an ugly camera wart protruding from the boot lid, or hide it behind the roundel.

Back when they change the model in 2011 it may have been the only car with the flip roundel camera, but now in 2015 every car should have it available... "copycats" lol

However the LCD dash on the 2015 models... OMG! that's AMAZING! can't wait to be able to personalize it... i'm sure they are coming out with that option via usb...

How much power/torque your JB4 add?
650 has 130 HP (~40%) more power and 150 lb-ft (~45%)more torque while 200-300 lb (~7%) heavier right?
I have no idea about your 640, but I recall I had some 4.4-4.5 second (0-60) with my 650i...

That's possible - but again why make the 6er the only model with this setup, that precludes a power trunk? Obviously BMW engineered the overall design knowing it did not allow for this feature. And as we all know there have been many threads & comments over the past couple years about this, with I believe the majority either upset/disappointing/surprised/confused as to why a car of this luxury caliber is missing such a basic feature. So I frankly think BMW dropped the ball on this, and always will. And nobody, I mean nobody including the delivery supervisor in Munich that I questioned about this can explain it.

I want to say 100HPs and 50ftlbs Torque

A friend of mine just got an R8 (the smaller v8 one) and we raced without the jb4 and even though he beat me. It wasn't by much. Maybe 1 car length... Both cars stock.

So I'll let you know when I race him again with my jb4 on.

That one should be close...

Fair enough - I guess the real test will be if the next gen 6 series gets it.

I traded cars with my friend for a week. He has a 550xi. His trunk lid was much larger/heavier. Still I tried to close it every time with my hand (I guess something I learned how to do and have been doing since I was 16). That really ticked off the system and the trunk would close about 3" and then freeze. Pressing the button then re-opened it?

Long story short - I was thrilled to get back into my 6-series where I could just close the trunk (seriously, that's not a trunk, it is a small shelf) with a quick pull. No waiting, no fuss.

That mystery button however will lock the doors, which is nice, click that, close the trunk with your hand and walk away.

Count me in with the 3 people who think it is just fine the way it is. Oh and the soft close doors are worthless as well on this car.

Honestly think you trained yourself with the 6 & other cars to shut it by hand. If you simply pressed the trunk button on the 550 it would power itself closed. Spent some time with a MB E350 and loved the power trunk, worked every time. And why are the soft close worthless? I love 'em. Just push/pull the door gently until it latches and it does the rest. Never have to slam a door again.

And the soft close is the most ballinest sh!t evaaaaa!! Haha. It really is a luxury feature that you don't see on most cars, and I use the hell out of it. I just close the door up to right before the stop and then just push the handle in a little and the motor does the rest. When people see it, their like oh he doin well!

oh I know how it works - had it on my X6. Wonderful with a huge hatch way above your head. On the 6- series? Just silly. On the 5? Gimmicky and not needed.

And yes, with my X6, the soft close doors would have been wonderful (foolish mistake saving $600) - and on my wife's MDX? Damn they need them so bad - you can't close those doors without a slam! But on the 6 series? With the frame-less windows? Once again, silly. Almost difficult to activate - because the doors close like butter - without the assist of motors which only make this heavy beast even heavier.

Soft close doors are honestly the reason why I decided to get a 6 series instead of another M4.

That's 'nother ball game bruh!

Ball so hard you don't even close your own doors!
