640d Terraclean booked in for Friday

After having the 640d for just under 2 months now on sensible drives I haven't achieved anywhere near what the car should get mpg wise and it feels a little turbo laggy.
So before all the hassle of going to the dealer I'm getting a Terraclean done to see what difference that makes.
I'll update on here if anyone is interested to hear if it's a success

So you have gone from something around 33mpg to 62mpg just by having the engine Terracleaned? I would never have believed it could make such a massive difference! What did the process cost?

No no, on a very Eco drive on the motorway I could manage 41-47mpg now 47-60.
My journey to work was around 30 Eco driving now 41-42.
Normal driving it's now 36mpg going to work and before was 28mpg. I'm yet to do a proper journey of normal driving since having it done.
But it's definitely an improvement and has much better throttle response now too.
The cost was £130

Hmm

This is interesting as I'm getting 28s and 30s max on commute ( 20 miles motorway journeys ), never used Eco pro mode so I'll try that this week and see if my numbers are near yours, but either way I think I'll try this service out

No idea what Eco feels like with the diesel but with the gasoline 640ix you might as well be driving a Prius.

Sorry I didn't mean Eco mode I meant driving economically haha.

Eco mode is fine if you're just cruising on the motorway but anything else it feels very numb. I hardly use it as I think in comfort you can get just as good figures.

Holy shit

Tried it this week, it's like driving my first car .... A 1 ltr rover metro, love the way bmw fudge figures by adding stop start ( which I turn off ) and Eco pro to their numbers lol

I average less than 30 mpg everyday, if I were to guess lifetime ownership is about 27, and my commute is all motorway haha

Still can't wings about the numbers, there great for such a fast car

How many miles on the motor when you had this done? Impressive results overall!

I am having a massive debate about trying eco pro out but I could quite quickly get bored.

I reckon it will do it good to get done.
I used Steve Sergent cars in Maidstone.

Was there an issue with your car that meant your improvements were so dramatic?. If the car gets better mpg and thottle response is improved then £130 seems like a no brainer. Just wondered whether all cars would benefit from this as much as you did?

cheers

No I don't know of any issues with the car but I did think It felt slightly sluggish and it should achieve better mpg so once it was done there was a good improvement. Normally I'd say to get it done every 60k but with diesels nowadays they do tend to get lots of soot & carbon build ups etc

Thanks for the feedback. Only had the car 1 week and haven't actually checked the mpg so far, but the guys you used are so close I'm sure I will give them a call in the next few months and see what happens. Seems like the sort of service that will pay for itself over the course of a year so well worth a try

64 plate with 24k on the clock. I'm guessing by the condition that previous owner did a lot of motorway miles - plus he owned it exactly 13 months so I would expect mileage to be lower otherwise. I'll check the mpg once I do a few more long trips and see how it's ticking over

Yeah it's normally worse when they do little short journeys etc. With the miles you have on yours I would expect it to be fine still tbh but you never know I guess. I'm looking forward to my trip to the Algarve in mine in July as will be able to see what it will get on a proper long journey :-)

Got 39.8 mpg last night when I bought the car and drove from London to Scotland. Average was I believe 77 mph on Eco Pro - was very slow in London and a lot of the average value camera zones then was on cruise control between 80 - 90mph. I used Terraclean on my very old Alfa Romeo GTV which made 0 difference. Would be interesting to see if this will work better on the diesel
