Bike Rack Gran Coupe?
Morning guys,
I'm thinking of switching from my F11 5 series to a GC, however, it would seem that I you can't get roof bars or a tow bar for the Gran Coupe and I believe the rear seats don't fold. So has anyone had any success with mounting a bike rack? Graeme |

I'm pretty sure the rear seats fold down - not sure you can get a bike in there though.
I believe all of the 6ers lack the roof hardware to mount a rack. I too remember seeing something about a rack that fits around the trunk area. Might be worth looking into.

Always thought it was dumb that the seats in the coupe don't fold...

OK, I'll deny ever having said this and not sure how it would fit on a GC but....
For my previous 535 ix GT I bought a Saris Bones 3 bike rack. According to both Saris and BMW it doesn't fit and can't work. Well, I did it for three years and never had an issue. It was a pain opening and closing the hatch, but it did work. Similarly, though I haven't tried it on a road trip with my new 640 ix Vert, I can put it on the trunk lid / bumper the same way. No idea about the GC as I said but might be worth a look. |

Probably best not to use one of the type of bike rack that clips onto the front edge of the boot on the GC. The boot is made of fibre glass and would probably break!
If you have, or can get fitted, a tow hitch then any of the tow hitch mounted bike racks should work. BMW definitely supply one for the GC. Quote:

OP can confirm the seats fold on my UK Gran Coupe also (although you may not be part of the UK in a bit ). It's quite a big boot, but the aperture and height isn't great, so wouldn't be fun getting a bike in/out, regardless of folding the seats.

How does this work then? No tow hitch required?

Worth investigation as I may get a GC and don't want to fit a tow bar unless hidden and electric and this is not a factory option like on the 4 series and I need to carry a couple of bikes instead of borrowing the wife's 4x4

I don't think you can get a towbar in the UK, I contacted Witter, but nothing for the 6 series

I have a 2014 650 GC M-Sport w bike rack
I have a 2014 650 GC M-Sport w bike rack. I got the BMW rack for the rear. Works great. I am an avid MTB and road rider. W/ M-sport a small notch has to be cut in the rear bumper. But not noticeable.
