Special paint - $$$

I've done 2 prior BMW's in special colors ($2K in mid '90's and $4K in early 2000's) but wasn't prepared for this: BMW's quote for painting a '14 M6 vert in Montreal Blue ('96-'97 std color) is $7,850 !!

I'm already springing extra bucks for the Amaro Brown Individual leather so I'm going to have think - and think again - at nearly $8K for a different blue.

On a percentage basis, it probably is the same for the cost of the other cars!

What about going the vinyl wrap route for your custom color? It should be less than half.

Yea, I'm a bit put off by $8K for Montreal Blue. I like the color a lot, but probably not $8K worth. I've never seen a wrapped car; does it feel slick like waxed paint or is it tacky like, well, vinyl?

Truthfully I'm not sure. I've never touched one personally, but I'm getting my daily wrapped in the next week or so so I will be able to get a better assessment. But I have seen some wraps that have like the paint color and then a clear coat type layer over that. Maybe that layer is more of the slicky feel and not tacky. I think you can wax them just fine and are probably encouraged to do so.
