650i remote OBD flash tune

Hi All,

I've been surfing around to try to find a good idea on who does the DME flash tunes for the 650i N63TU via OBD, (no DME removal or no need to take it to a shop). It's pretty unclear to me. Can anyone clarify for me what shops or vendors do this?

Thanks!

I just placed an order for the BPM Stage 2 tune yesterday. Heard great things about them, so hoping for a good turnout. I just wish they had a dyno for the Stage 2.

Thanks for the info. They look pretty good. Do you know if they have the code in their software to keep the exhaust flap open all the time in Sport and Sport+ modes? I've seen at least one DME tune that does that.

Actually they didn't on the website when ordering, but I did ask them the same exact thing yesterday and they will try to include it with the flash. They also re-calibrate the sport display to show the updated HP/Torque figures.

interesting. Have you installed them yet? Would be interested to hear your thoughts on them.

No, not yet. My biggest concern was the smell. The way it works is, first they send you the cable that you hook to your ODB2 port. You connect it to your laptop and using their software you extract the information from the car that you then send to them.

It takes about 2 weeks (they are busy at the moment) to get the file back for your specific car. Once you get the file back, you flash the car, which would then be stage 2. Between now and 2 weeks from now, I will have the downpipe and install it, at which point I can give you updates.

My favorite part is the ability to flash back to stock at your own leisure. I had a similar experience with my A3 and loved it.

If you are afraid of the gas smell, go with the hi flow cats - it should be negligible.

Any idea what the gains are supposed to be for stage 2?

This is what they said in the email.

"Stage II will gain about 30-50 hp more than Stage I, depending on fuel quality, elevation, etc. Keep in mind that Stage II is for cars with catless downpipes."

As far as the smell, I read some reviews and most people don't notice the smell after it's been broken in, so I'll see how that works out first.

When you flash the car home , did you use a battery charger supply to prevent killing battery ?

No. I am waiting for the stage 2 file, but when I extract my own file to send to them, it took less than 10 minutes. Coding probably uses more battery than a flash. To be fair, I still have to wait to flash their file, but I'm assuming it will not take much longer than extracting my own.

I assume youre car have 2 ECU's Since it's a v8 engine , it mean's that the flashing time will be at leat 15-20 min's .
You should ask youre tuner if a battery charger is necessary ?

Directions don't say anything about a battery charger being necessary.

"Ensure your vehicles battery is healthy and that the vehicle is not displaying an "Increased Battery Discharge" warning. Ensure that you have switched all loads to off – including the headlights, radio, air conditioning, and any interior lights."

I extracted my tune today and sent it to BPC. It took 7 minutes to extract. Will update once I receive and install the tune.

Quick review, really enjoying the tune. Haven't gotten any real world numbers (dyno, 1/4 times/trap speeds), but had a nice run in with a P85D. He pulled on me a couple of car lengths off the line while I was struggling for traction, but by around 120 I was a 1 - 1.5 cars ahead of him. I have a Stage 2 BPM tune with downpipes.

Won't ask about the dyno, but any additional details/experiences with your stage II?

What was your main decision point for going with the vendor you chose, vs. others?

So far so good. Here's an quick run that was filmed. I'm really enjoying the catless downpipes as it gives the car more character.

Nice pull. Is that on 93 octane?
