2007 M6 with 90K miles

Hey Fellas,

Been ""monitoring"" the last few days trying to get the overall feel for the forum. Specially as I am contemplating a 2007 M6, MT with 90K miles on it. I am a tinkerer my nature, but then really only on the 3 series. I digress though.

I came upon this M6 by accident really, as I was looking for an old unloved 3 series convertible that I could rescue, show some love to and put on daughter duty for the next few years. I found it, but in the process stumbled unto this, well, beast with a V10 (this one would be for me not my daughter) ;-)

I checked it out this weekend and it's a 9/10 interior, 9.5/10 exterior. Scanned it, and came back clean, chirps in 3rd gear with a very nice feel to the clutch and shifts. Clean and dry albeit dusty engine and compartment (made me think no one has been in there in a while and could be an argument for reliability).

At any rate, was wondering what you blokes thought about something like this. Not ashamed to brag a little that I can squeeze 250+k miles out of the E36 and some newer engines with my kind of attention to maintenance and feel for these puppies, but I realize that something like this is a whole different animal- specially something like the V10.

So, any anecdotal evidence that this engine can spin well into the 100K miles? I don't seem to see/find any high mileage post 2006 M6's out there.
Also, what kind of price tag sounds appropriate for the likes of one like this one? I ask considering that on the 3's, 100k ,miles usually means re gasketing a million and one oil/coolant leaks and freshening up suspension. But their little engines are bulletproof and then you typically have a car that lasts you another 150K miles.

All right then, cheers...look forward to many an input.

Hey man, welcome to the forum.
I own a 07 M6 with SMG. She has 64k miles now.
I use it as my daily car and I haven't had any problems with it.
Just the standard tear and wear.
The only major problems that I had so far:
1) Coolant hose leaked ($180 nbd)
2) Hydraulic unit ($3700~)
The problem with hydraulic unit is pretty common for M6 apparently.
I did some research around this forum and other bimmer forums.
This problem happens to many E63 M6 with 50k+ miles.
From what I read, it's just a one time thing and the car will run flawlessly again after it got changed.

Where are you located?
You can use autotrader and cars.com and do some research and see comparable prices.
I'm selling my baby for $36k (it has mods) just as a comparison.
I honestly think it can spin well into the 100k-150k miles with no major problems.
I think there aren't many M6 out there with 100k miles because there aren't many people who use it as their daily car.
I owned an e92 335i before this, and the M6 maintenance cost is about the same as that car.

Thanks for the response mate,

I appreciate the detail. By the sound of it, it appears that yours has been pretty solid save for the SMG. I saw many a grumbling about that in my research.

You sticking with the line after you sell yours or are you trying your hand at a different flavor?

Comp prices around here (Texas) are in the low 30's but with less than 60k miles as far as I've been able to see. Must say they get under your skin once you drive one.

Thanks again for the comeback.

I had a 08 M6 from new to 69k miles before my current M6. It's an amazing car but beware OP, these vehicles with high mileage can be a bit risky as investments. There are dozens of threads on m5board on how the S85B50 V10 in these cars is prone and extremely likely to fail close to 100k miles. Make sure to cover your bases.

I still have my '06 M6 w/ 83k miles. I intend to sell VERY soon as the extended warranty just expired. Worried about rod bearings and vanos issues very shortly.

I had a 2007 M6 cabrio from new. It was my good weather summer daily drive (read good weather, no rain or snow).

I had 49,000 km on it and up till then had no real issues mechanically with it. After consultation with my dealer and the head mechanic who serviced all my BMWs I was advised that we could expect to see a few large ticket items around 55,000 km as maintenance or replacement items. Hydraulics, Vanos, water pump, both camshafts, and a major SMG service to the estimate of $18,000 if and when it all will be needed, plus I needed new rubber come sept 2015. I also had a ghost issue where the auto level active head lights sometimes worked and sometime a did not, but the problem never materialized at he dealer or had a fault code that they could capture, which just started may of 2015 ... Another $3000 bill possibly.

The car was well loved and maintiened immaculately inside, out and mechanically.

The V10 always left a shit eating grin from ear to ear on my face everytime I heard the V10 ROAR ... So it was a tough call as I loved the car, my kids grew up in the back seat from baby seats at 2 weeks to boosters currently.

The new technology of the current M6 was a minor player in the decision, and the main concern was reliability and cost for future maintenance.

I sold the 2007 in sept 2015 and ordered the 2016 in dec

I love the new car and tech but feel emasculated as the exhaust note and character of the V10 is missing and in a way regret selling it , and yet love he new car and it's technology

Fingers crossed that this one is THE IDEAL example with no problems! You will love it! I sure loved my 2007 ... And the day I handed over the keys and watched the sales manager drive off with it is a day I still remember and in a way regret.

Hope the car is mint and has many years of trouble free driving!

If you want to fix your sound problem in your new M6 I'm selling my M Performance Exhaust as my M6 is up for grabs after my i8 comes in. Its an OEM BMW part so it falls under warranty. It's the exact design of the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust which is one of the sweetest sounding out for the M6 and its manufactured by Akrapovic themselves. PM me if you're interested after you finish reading this shameless plug.
