BMW 640i M Performance Exhausts (Questions)
Hello all,
I went through some threads and videos regarding the M performance exhausts and would like to ask some questions, Ill appreciate your help & feedback! I ordered the M performance exhausts (for my BMW 640i) from my local dealer and it should be available in 3 weeks, they also said they will convert the exhaust tips to the 650i style! Here are some questions regarding the sound of the exhausts: 1) I saw some videos about the M performance exhausts on the 335i and the 640i and I could hear some pops and cracklings sound is that moded or is it the actual sound of the exhausts? 2) What if I replace the mid-pipe with Super Sprint mid-pipe? Any ideas how will the sound be? (any ideas if there are better mid-pipes? Super Sprint said I need some modifications on the mid-pipe before installing) 3) Is there any difference in the sound of the M performance exhausts when changing the mode from Comfort to Sport? Automatic to S? (640i) Ill appreciate your feedback guys! Thank you in advance! |

1- hard to say since a vid may have sound degradation, but on my 335i there were no such sounds. 2- not aware but suppose it would be louder 3- the difference in sound would be due to the fact that the program changes will change the shift points and sensitivity of the gas pedal, so you will hear more in sport because you rev higher. Finally, I would NOT suggest putting the 650i tips on, they are ugly to begin with, and the M performance exhaust comes with ///M engraved tips that you'll love and not want to discard! good luck

I believe Sport mode (at least on the 650i with M Sport) keeps the flaps open more than Comfort. You can get some decent noise in Comfort, but you really have to nail the throttle. Driving around town in Sport - while not as good as opening the throttle wide - sounds pretty good, and I use Comfort as a "mute button" when I see a cop or am in a part of town I want to decrease the attention I receive.

MY LCI 640i Msport exhaust is louder when I have it in sport mode.
in Comfort mode you need to push it about over 4000 rpm to hear the noise. My Sport exhaust also has a pop sound its like back fire.
