Tint on 650i GC question.
So I want to tint my new 650i GC but have a concern. I'm know that after tinting you can't roll your windows down for 3-5 days. However, as we know, the windows go up and down by themselves when I open/close the doors, I asked the installer (who is VERY good and trusted) about this. He said I have about a 50% better chance of the tint peeling than if it was a framed window.
Anyone have experience on this? Any info would be appreciated as I don't want to spend the $600 (3M Crystalline) and have the stuff peel on the edges. He will repair it for free if it does though but would rather not go through the hassle. Also, if anyone has pics of their 650 GC tinted with 3M Crystalline, can you share them? Also, what do you think of it? Thanks for any info. J Last edited by JakeBMW; 06-22-2016 at 09:11 PM.. |

I had my GC tinted twice and this was not an issue either time. Once with generic no-name tint and then re-tinted with Llumar ceramic.

The shops that use high quality firm, which you are considering, know how to deal with dot matrix and will remove the window/door trim and even rear break lights. You still want to wait the recommended time period for the film to fully cure, but all these steps will make the film bubble free and minimize chances of peeling.

OK. Changed my mind about using the guy I thought I would after seeing my brothers M3. The guy clearly doesn't know how to handle the dot matrix. Looks terrible.
Anyone know a good tinter in northern Illinois? |

I recommend the Spectra Photosync film or the Ceraluxe film. I ended up getting the Photosync film on my M6. The heat rejection is phenomenal and the films looks very good. It has a light bluish look to it and somehow it get's darker when the sun beams on it. They are based out of San Jose, CA. I'm sure they can point you to a reputable shop on IL. Just contact them.

The dot matrix only seems to usually affect the rear window as they are much more pronounced than the front. The raised whitening effect does not bother me as much as others as long as it is uniform. But, some shops will either sand them down or use some Vinyl wrap.

Hmmm. I emailed him and he said that there was nothing he could do about the dot matrix.

Back when I tinted my 640i GC, I wasn't allowed to open the windows for 48 Hours. Even though the windows dip down when opening the doors, however even to this day at the Dealership where it's sitting waiting for its new owner the tint hasn't peeled at all! Bare in mind I live in a desert where the normal temperature is over 100F

So finally went with Pinnacle 40%. Love it! Installer probably could have spent more time around the dot matrix but I'll tinker with that myself. Looks like they got tired or rushed on the passenger side
Also had Cquartz pro done. Love the shine. Pics don't do justice (iPhone) Rear was debadged as well.

Looks great. You mentioned doing some work to the window dot matrix yourself. Any tips? This is the first car that I have owned that has dot matrix on the passenger windows and I dont think my tint guy did as well ashe could in that area. Any tips appreciated

No tips. Never done it but read here to use a credit or hard card wrapped in microfiber to squeeze out the air. Also saw that you can heat it up a little with a hair dryer or let it sit in the hot sun (November in illinois doesn't have that
