Thats not how its worked with the Z4 20i deal that some got a year or so back. They got 8K discount and have traded the car back a year later getting trade in value the same as they paid. Depreciation comes from RRP not from what you negotiate/paid.

I have just confirmed my order getting £15k off £80k list for a high-spec 6GC / 640d built to my specification. Surprisingly they are delivering the car within 4 weeks as they've an existing production slot available.

Having bought 6 BMWs in 5 years, I can say that depreciation is always staggering (especially for big petrol engines - and the 6/7-series end doesnt hold its value well like MB/Audi) I dont know anyone who makes money buying a car unless you're buying classic, or rare or scarce production run models.

The good news: During the promotional period, Used cars / AUC are looking poor value as you can get a new car to your spec for the same cost with the compounding effect of huge ££ off list plus 0% APR.

The bad news: Anyone turning in their car within 12-18 months are finding they're in negative equity unlike a year ago. Customers rather buy new.

Excellent - which dealership you buy from? my dealer says car is expected UK side on the 16th September - hopefully will be able to get it after 2 weeks i assume.

What options did you get?

Do you know any coders?

That's good news as the dealer I spoke with made it out that the best offers were on pre built cars. I'll be looking at build to order too now!

Order placed with Rybrook BMW in Warwick, all promotional offers are on new cars built to specification (and not stock or pre-registered). Evidently only some dealers are offering this level of incentive.

I have been told to expect delivery in 3 weeks (end of September).

The BMW Future Guaranteed Value on the 6GC after 4 years suggests 35% of RRP.

The 6GC in particular is about £15,000 more expensive than similarly sized and equipped marquees like the Audi A7 and the Mercedes CLS. I don't think new prices will firm up, I expect less generous promotional offers arguably, but the Approved Used market has been somewhat disrupted.

If you rang BMW financial services and got a 'settlement figure', you'd get a live indicator of just how much depreciation is tracking.

That's kind of in line with what I normally expect on cars of this type (40-50% after 3 years). Less generous promotional offers would be new prices firming up IMO. The RRP is irrelevant, its what one has to pay when all is said and done that matters.

Currently you can get a 640d for £55k and 0% over four years. I'd expect 40-50% of that £55k back in 3 years if those offers are still around. On the other hand if new car offers are thin on the ground because things are picking up, £35k for a 3 year old one against £65k for a new one may not look too bad. Although more likely the choice will be between the used 6 and a new 4 series.

I am intrigued by your comment: the 6-series (a grand tourer) and the 4 series (a compact sports-oriented coupe) are two entirely different vehicle classes. Do you feel as a 6-series owner that the 4-series is a better choice?

The 4 series looks beautiful - lower, wider, better interiors and more sporty - but i missed the 6ers proportions and premium touches when I sat in the 3-series

I totally get where he is coming from, I too am impressed by the 4 series and was seriously considering it.

However as there is no offers on it and with its normal APR - with even some compromises car can start pushing 50k - then the gran coupe wins all over.

There is also the interior - the 4 series is identical to the 3 series and thus feels boring and drab. Huge puller from the gran coupe was the interior. I was gobsmacked.

I had though Audi led the way in this class - till I saw this. It shows BMW can do excellent interiors if they put there mind to it.

On another note - I am seriously worrying about the interior. Not the leather seats as such, more the tan lower footwells.

Gonna buy the all weather mats, but with the carpet, I guess I can scotchguard it. Any other recommendations? Lot of the internet is american biased.

Exterior, was thinking of putting a protective film over it, but some say wrap it - others say just polish it.

However the bird poo in this country need to talk to a neutral person who has good knowledge of all areas. Otherwise I dont want to be hard sold onto any product.

I couldn't agree more:

The new 4-series looks the business: the wide rear track, the low stretched front, the swoop of the rear C-pillar - some angles are just stunning for a mainstream premium marquee, yet when you sit in the 3-series derived interior, I was completely underwhelmed by the layout, width and the 'small car' equipment and detailing.

On the interior, the only advantage the 4-series has vs. the 6-series is a fully sliding sunroof (not merely tilting/venting like the 6GC sunroof); and perhaps the touch sensitive iDrive controller. I dont like the ratchet mechanical handbrake and the lexus-like front dashboard. The sultry swoop of the 6er dashboard into the centre console is one of the best BMW has done and comes close to the sheer luxury and detailing on the 5-Series GT which has a stunning interior.

I wont worry about the beige velour interior: it is pre-treated to reduce stains and water marks. It does show dirt more than black velour mats but nothing you cant clean with some good detergent from time to time. Rubber mats are an option in winter or if you live in a sandy area but for most part, its fine.

heres a tricky one

4 series gran coupe vs 6 series gran coupe
easy you might say - but what if the 4er is 10k cheaper? Is the interior worth the extra 10k?

For me, yes - lol, i am an idiot

The 4 series gran coupe is going to look brilliant. Those 428i coupe images in Mineral Grey are stunning. Shame about the interior. I don't think the 6 series looks as lithe but damn does it look powerful.

No, I was just implying its more likely someone will be cross shopping a used 6GC, against a new 4GC in two years time.

As not many people who are genuinely reconciled with spending £60k on a car (new 6GC), cross shop with a 3/4 year old version instead.

You probably seen it already but if not - I think this is a great video as it is so biased towards the car

Congratulations! Really delighted for you! Pictures soon?

Mine is promised week 41 but is being delivered end of week 39, around the 29th sept for an order placed 3 Sept. will be my 5th BMW in 6 years and very likely the fastest built from new.

I'm going to see a stock car this weekend. They're offering a huge discount on it. I'm just not sure on the colour scheme (M Sport 640d gran coupe, white, with black interior) as I'm concerned the black interior will look drab in such an expensive car. Especially with a black roof liner.

Black was my preference (for practicality), but I ended up with Ivory/black. Having seen quite a few black ones, I think it looks far from drab. You have to remember there's lots of leather (where there would normally be black plastic) and contrast stitching, so even in all black the interior to looks very good (probably the best BMW do IMO, after my uncle just bought a new 7). At night the ambient lighting will bring it to life swell. The only caveat is I would consider a sunroof, the glass house on the GC isnt huge, so the sunroof would allow some light in on those duller days.

Its the white exterior colour that would give me pause on that car. Compared to Space Grey and black, I think white didnt do much for the GC.

Funnily enough I am the opposite on this - I feel the white looks brilliant on the car, though not as good as the black.

I would pass on the black interior too- this model has one of the best interiors in this class range worldwide. I dont think you would appreciate it if it was all black black.

The sunroof only vents (doesn't open) and I feel ruins the look of the car in any other colour bar black. If you do prefer more light in, then Mentos is totally right.

It all comes down to discount - if it is a massive huge discount (more than the current 12k dealer deposit contribution) - then sure go for it. If there isn't a massive margin, then order a baby in - doesn;t seem to be taking that long at the moment (can change of course).

Oh and yes pictures need to be uploaded on this site or I'll

That's pretty good. Thats 2k more of a discount then I got. Do also look at all the options the CAR doesn;t have. Would you regret not having them later?

for example;
Adaptive LEDs, I don't think were essential - though I feel if I did not get them, my car may look dated sooner - though you can retrofit them.

In short compare your own preferred, affordable, realistic, customised car configuration on the bmw website to the car that is being offered to you.

Then value what you are losing (by not ordering your exact spec) to what you will be gaining in terms of saving.

I don't know if I have made myself clear there

Good luck - what dealership is this?
