Cool 2012 6-series convertible (F13) hits the Ring

As featured on BIMMERPOST HOMEPAGE.

This 650 F13 6-series convertible (http://www.bimmerpost.com/6-series) has hit the Nurburgring with less camo than previously seen during its track testing. To recap, this next generation 6-series will very closely follow the design lines that have been set fourth with the BMW Concept Gran Coupe (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378296) and has been said to be one of the most beautiful cars BMW has ever produced by BMW execs who have seen the car in the flesh. Production of the 650 convertible will begin in March 2011.

Here is the BMW announced production schedule for the F12 / F13 6-series coupe and convertible.

MY 2012:

March 2011 - 650cv
July 2011 - 650cp
September 2011 - 640cp/cv
September 2011 - 650xi cp/cv

UPDATE, the boys over at PistonSpy have taken pictures of the same 6 Series (3 of them actually) from a few different angles!

Are they really releasing this in soft-top. What is this 1998?

The top is looking as soft tops usually look. In the previous posting of the car it was stretched so tight it gave impression of a metal roof covered with fabric. A good looking car - thanks.

No thanks. Too big and heavy. Top is horrible. No doubt behind the wheel is very nice but the outside is not where it should be. Looks like a cross between on 2002 Camaro and a Sebring. Some cars they just need to leave the tops on.

I actually like the soft top idea. i've seen enough clunky mechanical folding hard tops that leave unsightly lines and gaps when up or down. It will be a stunning car i'm sure.

MB SL? Very successful hardtop vert in the same general price range.

The 6 was born to be a hardtop car. Too bad it will never see the light of day as a hardtop.

Too big and heavy? The car is already pretty darn heavy.

Wish I knew when the Gran Coupe was hitting production. 2011? 2012?

The SL is a two seater, with a cosmetic back seat available in some markets. The 6er at least offers the pretense of a functional backseat. I have yet to see a four seat hard top convertible that doesn't look silly, the E93 being perhaps the worst offender, so I wouldn't trust BMW to do this right. Of course Ferrari even screwed up the California, and it's got about as much interior space as the SL.

+1

The SL is significantly smaller and less grand tourer. The 6 is more competitive with the CL or upcoming S coupe. (although really the 6 lands somewhere in between the 2).

The hard top would look silly, weigh an extra 300lbs, and be far less elegant with the top down.

Hopefully they will unwrap the thing soon! I think the spoked wheels look awesome!
