iPhone 4S / iPod will not connect via Y lead

I cannot get my iPhone 4S (running the iOS 7) or an iPod to connect to the Professional Media stack in my F07 6er GranCoupe. I now have tried both types of the OEM Y cable (with and without the comm box, though advised the newer cars don't need the comm box version) and the car still won't display entertainment lists via steering controls, or display album art or play music unless off the actual phone.

Has anyone else had this? What is the work around?

You should be able to use a standard Apple dock connector USB cable plugged into the USB port in the centre arm rest cubby hole.

These guys have given you the best advice. Just use the standard white USB cord that came with your ipod/iphone.

I tried the same thing you did. I took the Y cable from my X6 and tried to use it in the GC but it would not display the information on the idrive screen. I took the white ipod cable from my desk at home and put it in the car and well, now everything is displayed from the ipod onto the idrive screen.

I remember being a little giddy when I was able to see the album art on the idrive screen or the first time in the GC because my X6 was an '09 model, and the idrive system did not have that function back then... lol.

Just use the standard Apple USB connection, and you will be just fine.

Just did and it works fabulously well, thank you. Amazing to see Album Art on the idrive screen!

Just shows what numpties the Product Genius and dealers can be that it took 2 Y leads purchased (which I am now returning for a refund) when all along a simple apple lead would have done fine.

Anyone use Siri via the voice assist? So much better than the clunky BMW system if we could.

Yes I have used the Siri and it seems to work well, I'm sure you know but just in case your dealer didn't tell you how it works - a short press on the steering wheel voice button activates the BMW system and a longer press activate Siri through the idrive

You are joking?!! Are you serious?!!!

It isn't in any of the manuals. The Product Genius had no idea.

Not sure if your signature is updated, but that should only work on cars that have the 4.2 idrive.

The Product Genius is BMWs take on Apple Retail store product genius and having bought my car in one of only 3 dealerships that have them, I can confirm they are rubbish. The average reader here will know more than these guys.

My car was built in Sept 2013, delivered Oct 2013 so I presume it has the 4.2 idrive. Have seen the dragon dictate but have never used it.

If you have real time traffic I think that was a feature with version 4.2
