650GC Vibration

Hey, Folks here,

After around two months observation of the vibration in my 650GC (No any error message displayed on Idrive). I found the vibration happened on some certain conditions.
1. Engine must be warmed
2. can must be driven for a while.
and then when I stopped at a traffic light, the car started vibration (it's minor). I was extremely, so I did not take the car to the dealer for a check.

Ah, I also found when car is cold, the shift between 3rd and 4th is not smooth.

Does anybody else also have the same experience (vibration / hard shift)?

Garage List
I sometimes get the vibration in my 650i. I think the vibration is the result of a couple factors: low idle and lean mixture while idling. The computer does not make the fuel mix so lean until the engine warms up. I also got the vibration in my 535i when I had that car.

Haven't really noticed any problems with harsh shifts. The tranny seems very smooth.

I have that vibration too. I assume that it is just Good Vibrations....

Rough shifting when cold, that is normal I think. I get that on most automatic, more or less.

Yep, so I think there is a way to fix it. Never seen any m6 owner reports it.

Um, I did not notice any rough shitfs in my past 335, x6. It may due to I did not care the car like now. (I take my baby to an reputable local detail shop for a good handwash almost every week).
BTW, since you have taken your car for service several times, is the vibration still there? Never been fixed?

Actually, it was shaking more after picking up from the shop last time, but they changed oil. Usually, engine runs rougher first few hundred miles after oil change in my past experiences. There are technical explanations, but I don't wanna get into that. If you get drivetrain malfunction, the shake is pretty violent then you know you are in trouble.

Anyway, it is still shaking, but I take this shake as a good sign.

As for car wash, I wash them all myself, but I just wash one once a week. Good exercise is one reason, but the satisfaction of doing it myself and getting it done right is priceless. I even tell SA when I drop off the car for repair to not wash it. Anyway, I just drop off my black car for bumper repair b/c some jerk scuffed it while parking on the street. I picked it up from the shop last Friday and shop left swirl city on the hood, and that ruined my day! They said they used microfiber towel. What a bunch of idiots....

Thanks for reply Neversummer. I will keep an eye on the vibration and think it is kind of good sign at the same time.
As for the car wash, because I live in a condominium self wash is really not convenient for me. However, I always bring shampoo and towels to the detail shop and oberserve their washing progress carefully. Same as you, never trust detail shop's shampoo expecially their towels. Their towel always has some hidden small stones or sands inside.

Yeap, they all suck without constant supervision!

Enjoy the drive!

I just consider it a "free" option that BMW threw it. Messaging seats.

Yes. Nowadays BMW cars always have problems here and there.
My past three cars never been trouble free. What a sad story. 335 HPFP problem. X6 headlight brake light problems. 650gC vibration.

Thanks, even I really like the car but the vibration is just kind of annoying staff.
Thought about Audi s7 may be a better ride. However, when I was doing some research in Audi world and Audizine, most Audi owners mentioned S7/S6 have harsh shifts and vibration no matter is under driving or steady at traffic lights.

Our 650GC is a perfect balanced machine, but it just has some minor problems.
My sales guy also owns 650GC and M6 both, and he preferred 650GC as a DD. It is true that M6 has far more power than 650, but you just can not use it out except on the track.
I remember he used "beast" for m6, "perfect balanced machine in all aspects" for 650GC.

Yes enjoy our rides with some automatic vibrated seats is fine sometimes.

Yes, 650 is a very balanced machine (when it works correctly). It is good and its automatic is smooth if you compare to the DCT in M model, so it is wonderful for everyday use. I took it up and down LA-SF a few times, and that is what this car (GT) was built for. GT to me is a car that is sexy, can go (very) fast, and very comfortable while do all that. For track day, M6 is just way too big IMO. I used to track a little many years ago. Anyway, M4 would be perfect for track day toy, but waiting to check out Alfa Romeo 4C first. Seriously, any car over 400HP is nothing to sneeze at on the open road, especially 2 lanes highway. If I don't want somebody to pass me, he or she can't pass me period. The only gripe I have on this car is its exhaust note which will be addressed as soon as I know for sure that the "Drivetrain Malfunction" drama is over.

Saw a guy with Eisenmann exhaust on 650 today. Sounds crazy.

Does it come with valves? Otherwise huge amount of drones will be in the cabin. I hate it so I do not know which one shall I go with.
Actually, I am pretty satisfied with our msport exhaust. When I went to shopping back home. One 650GC with m sport pkg pulled in front of me. At that time, just since that time, I realized how much loud our exhaust are. Really sounds awesome.

I don't think it has valves, but here is a sample from F10 550i. Pretty much the same kit I think.

I like M Sport too, but it isn't that exciting any more once you hear those from AMG camp.

I also want the AMG sound, but aftermarket exhaust drones crazy too. Personally, I really can not bear drones.

Yes someday they will make one for us, but I think the one for m6 does fit 650 too. Some folks have done the stock m6 exhaust on 650.
