Excessive Brake Dust and Spatter // Solution?

The brake pads on the M6 (front and rear) seem to cause a TON of brake dust and spatter. I will literally wash my car and clean the wheels and within one day of driving they are brake-dusted and spattered like crazy.

I know there are some brake pads you can buy that are pretty damn good but I would like to think BMW doesn't use cheap pads -- but I cannot get over the mess they make.

Btw... I have steel rotors (not CCBs).

Anyone else experience this? Anyone else run different pads? Can you suggest a brand/model for me?

Brian

One reason I went for CCBs, sorry not much help!

Carbotech bobcat pads are supposed to be good and low dust after the initial break in. https://www.gmpperformance.com/index...=6161&VID=3757

I am running stock pads and get dust the best thing I did was to do a full detail on the wheels. I removed them from the car so I could get the barrels good.

1) I clay bared them
2) I then used a sealant
3) then waxed them.

It seems that the dust does not stick like it used to. I also use a pressure washer every week when I detail my car, I use a no touch washing system and the inner barrels look as nice as the outside with out ever taking a brush to them.

Takes work to keep things fresh but I enjoy it

Brian,

I put the Carbotech low dust pads on and voila! brake dust is all but eliminated and so was the squeal.

Best thing to do is what Dentaltech said. Wax your wheels.
I like Hawk performance brake pads a lot. They break well, quiet and very low dust.

I use Armor Wheel Protectant on both sets of wheels. Doesn't completely eliminate the dust but helps a lot.

I did the same, and Snow Foam and jet wash all things on the car, works for me.

I did the low dust carbotech pads cost me $600 plus $200 install and after two weeks of bedding in the steal is gone and much much less dust. Performance seems similar maybe a bit less grabby at first bite.

I am planning to have my dark blue calipers powder coated another color so this is a good time to swap out the pads. I appreciate the recommendation and experiences of these pads guys!

I have no issues with brake dust... I wipe them off (with a simple rag) about once per week and even then it is not bad... simple solution:

Brian,

FYI, the pads are red and visible... maybe red calipers on your black Beast would look good?!

Oooh I didn't know they were red. Hmm I was planning on painting the calipers Laguna Seca Blue which wouldn't look so good with red pads.

I sent the company an email asking if they have black pads -- waiting on answer.

Yes, definitely send over a pic of yours! Thanks!

I heard back from Carbotech and they said they will paint the pads any color you like (well any color they have available). I am going to go ahead and order them in black. I also placed an order for a couple containers of the Chemical Guys Wheel Guard (as suggested).

Hopefully with the new combo any dust that does come off will slide it's ass right off the wheel. lol.

Thanks again guys!

You only need one container of the Chemical guys stuff... as a little goes a LONG way. I have been using it for about 6 months now and have only used about 1/6th and I re-apply it once a month...

Ahhh ok... I might just send one of the containers to my brother in that case.

I ran into the guy who corrects and polishes all of my cars. He said he will put a coat of "Opticoat" on the wheels which will last a while. He said I can put the Chemical Guys stuff on over the Opticoat and that will really do the trick.

@BTF13M6 - Heck with the brakes... Look at those HREs! Yeh Buddy!
