I would rebuild. You never know what kind of problems you are going to get with a used motor. At least after being rebuilt you know it's good and if there are any issues with the build usually the shop will give you a 12-24 month warranty on the engine. Add all those things up and rebuilding is usually better than a used motor. What happened to your motor? Do you know if the block is ok?

Find a shop that can rebuild the motor and see what it will take and go from there.

Ask in the m5 forum. There are a ton of owners in the m5 forums that have had engines rebuilt.

Hit up Bklyn_Express he is selling a used motor with only 36k miles. I've chatted with him before and he is a knowledgeable dude.

Like kong24680 said, I have this 2013 year model motor with 36k miles, the good thing about this particular motor is that I knew the owner of the car it came from personally for many years prior to accident, not a Fast driving kid he just loved to drop the top and cruise, his car was bone stock with not even one modification to the car,so that's why I highly recommends this motor. Rebuilding is great also just make sure the mechanic doing the job have a lot of experience, and if your gonna rebuild you might as well upgrade the internals for more power.
