What turned your head towards the RS5? I guess it'll be a lot easier to get the power down in the RS5 - whilst it makes do with 95 bhp less I bet you can just stand on the throttle and not have the rear end squirm on you like the M6 does. The interiors of the RS5 and the new RS4 are very very nice too. I'd be interested to get some feedback from you once you've had it a few months. The new RS4 Avant could be on my short list for my next car when I think about changing in 18-24 months (that or an F90 M5 or even the M40i versions of the X4 or X3) |

Just had a look on Autotrader and I might need to price up / check the effect on insurance of the rear diffuser and those exhaust tips.
Are the exhaust tips the genuine BMW ones? I hadn't realised they have a chrome insert. It looks the mutts nuts. |

The RS5 has less power but it’s lighter and faster up to the speeds I’ll be doing (although it just so happens the one I’ve ordered has the speed derestriction option which takes it up to 174mph. Which is ludricous and at £1450 for the options I’d have never specc’d that).
Bought the M6 in August last year. I love it and have spent far too much money on it. If I was being sensible I’d keep it longer. Especially after putting the kit on it and everything else. There are/were (we’re on the backend of these deals now) some fantastic deals on UK stock pre-REG cars. I ended up with a discount on a brand new car of just over 20% which is just too good a deal to pass up. Since I changed the rear tyres the M6 is a lot better at getting the power down so it’s not just about Quattro but that is factor. There’s a few things I’m thinking about: The model is getting on a bit and this is only going to get more obvious once the 8 series and M8 starts hitting the streets. I need to put a litre of oil in it every 1000miles In a couple of years it’ll be a six year old car with no (free) warranty. The Audi will only be 2 years old, a current model and still in warranty. The RS5 will be cheaper to run. I’m getting 15.1mpg currently in the M6. It’s probably a drop in class from M6 to RS5 (afterall the M4 is the more natural competitor) but it’s newer tech and styling will be fresher for longer. This is the exact same one I’ve got coming: Last edited by Evil Derboy; 03-08-2018 at 02:59 PM.. |

I'm amazed that Audi are offering 20% off what's a fairly recent model, so I can understand why from a financial standpoint that's appealing.
A litre of oil every 1000 miles - odd how some engines go through oil like it's pop (soda for our American cousins) - I've done just under 3k since getting my car and I've put 500ml in mine. Tyre wise did you go for the Michelin Pilot 4S - which I think is a replacement for the Super Sports that were standard fitment. I reckon I'll be needing new set at the end of this autumn. Even with a relatively thirsty 2.9 V6 bi-turbo I guess that the running costs will be better both from a road tax and fuel perspective. It'll be no TDi but I guess you might see a figure in the 20's - again I'd be interested to hear how you get on MPG wise once you've had the car a few months, and I agree that in everyday driving on UK roads the RS5 will probably keep pace or outdo the M6 - at least up to speeds where you don't get an immediate ban. I've still got 2 services to go on my service inclusive plan, I think once these are done I'll be ready for a change myself. I agree what you say about the 8 series, though here in the North East, a 6 series let alone an M6 are a rare sight. Enjoy the new motor though. |

I only see one other M6 on the roads around my way and it’s a white one but even then I only ever see it sitting in an office car park. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another one on the road. Must admit I think I’ll miss that about it.

I recently moved from Audi to BMW (again...). My take, the VAG cars feel more solidly built, but not by a lot. I always judge it by how the door shuts, which I know is no real gauge. The fit and finish is always excellent in an Audi, and you will love the AWD system. They just don't seem to have the soul a bimmer carries. Hard to explain, but I think most here will know what I mean. I reckon you will be back to Bavaria in the near future .
