Low mileage rotors crack
Hi,
Here are some picture of my friend's ride bmw m6 2016 f13 just like mine . We noticed that his front brake rotors have weird wide crack on them , his car done 18k miles (29k k/m ). Any body knows if that normal ? Or it just needed to be replaced ? |

I find out that due to common features of the F10 M5 and M6, you should ask these technical questions there. There are so many more people there who've seen it all.

These are surface fatigue cracks, its debatable if they will swap under warranty as its difficult to know how deep the cracks are and if they will compromise the discs, on an 2016 that shouldnt happen in my view though and i would insist on a good will changeout

They are replacing the rotors , the delear say they are not under warranty .
the pads are so thick and the tech guy say there is no need to replace them . What do you think guys, should we replace the pads too with the rotors ? |

This is a big big no no, its always good practice to change discs and pads together for uniformity, its the same as taking a shower and using your old pants afterwards, sort of defeats the object.

and this was done by a BMW dealer, in my book this is sloppy work,
In any case you will most probably be fine as the pad is softer than the metal disc so any pad imperfections in surface should be shaved off with the new flat disc. Other may disagree, for peace of mind id pay and get the pads changed. |

Note time just money as the old ones would be out anyway, in anycase it should be ok, any issues you have a 2yr warranty with BMW OE parts
