So, where do you mount/store your (smart)phone?

Ever since I got my 650i gran coupé, I've been searching for the ideal spot to mount or place my smartphone, so it's in direct sight and easy to reach.
I prefer to have some kind of mount where I can clip in the phone and be able to rotate it horizontal or vertical, without it blocking any controls or buttons.

The only thing I found till now that should work is the Belkin smartphone cup mount (F8J168bt). But I also like to have that storage space free, so it's not ideal.

Anyone else have a good solution that doesn't involve drilling or any other kind of permanent fix (sticking a mount to the (plastic/aluminum) trim with double sided tape would be ok with me).

I use these for my F06 and my wife's F15. They work amazingly well and have a small footprint. Depending on where you attach the magnet, your phone will block part of the vent and probably the 1-3 preset buttons but I can't see any phone holder that won't block something. The best part is since it's a magnet, you just stick the phone on and pull it off when you leave, no clips.

Thanks. That is an option, but I'm not to fond of these vent clips. Also, I would need to stick a metal plate to the phone.
Really looking for a nice sturdy mount where the phone is preferably facing towards me.

i use a magnetic vent mount.
the metal plate is just sitting behind my case, not stuck to the phone but just sandwiched between the phone and the case.
although it came with a "screen protector" style clear vinyl the shape of the metal plate so you can stick that to your phone first and not damage it at all

My phone goes on the seat, in between my legs sort of (slightly wedged under). I can't stand having my car look like an uber or a taxi with one of those mounts. Hideous.

A magnetic disc stuck to the back of my phone and a swivel mount stuck to the dash. The charging cable runs into a round USB adaptor plugged into the power supply in the centre arm rest.

About as neat, reliable and convenient as you can imagine and only costs about £2

That's not bad... Where did you get the mount?
Does landscape also work?

Still don't like things on the back of my phone, though. I don't even use a case....

The Bay of e. Loads of sellers have them. No doubt all over Amazon as well
Landscape would work if you stuck the disc in the middle and you have enough dashboard real estate. But why?
The disc that sticks to be back of your phone is completely flat

I keep mine in the central armrest I do not see the reason to have the phone mounted anywhere in brutal honesty.

Spotify via bluetooth for music offline with a good playlist and answering calls, seeing texts via idrive....

Also store mine in the armrest connected via USB. Full Spotify control through idrive and everything else over bluetooth. Would be better if I had CarPlay but even as it is, it's pretty seamless, no need to see the phone.

Quite agree, mine stays in my pocket. The iDrive does all I need and I don't have to take my eyes off the road to fiddle around with the phone.

That would be great, but here in Holland we use Whatsapp a lot (I never use normal text messaging). And I don't think those messages would be posted on the iDrive.
If it would be possible, then that would be great.
Also, I tend to use my navigation on the Phone in landscape mode a lot (because of speed camera's). Don't know how to get them on the BMW nav, yet...

I like this ... can you provide more details please? Looks like some sort of base or clip that grabs the bottom of the phone.

Here's the product:

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/techlink-...ack-p49296.htm

https://www.shopcade.com/product/tec...6fcbb731014958

The dock comes with its own USB cable. However, when plugged into the USB port of the car, I got a message indicating that it's not a genuine or a recognized device. I had to mod the dock by replacing the cable with a genuine Apple USB cable. I'm attaching pics FYR.

thanks,

There's a perfectly good iphone holder and dock integral to the car built into the armrest compartment. Everything you could possibly want to do with your phone while driving is bluetoothed right into the iDrive apps to use it handsfree with steering wheel controls - phonebook/contacts, call, answer, hangup, email, text, notifications, etc. and you have a great navigation system built in as well. I say learn how to use the apps as the BMW engineers designed the car and put your phone where THEY thought it should go. No mounting required. Keep it clean/simple.

Not an iPhone user...
Have to look into the options bmw offer for Android phones.

But, I'm already loving the clean look of the car interior, so I'm now trying different options for speed cams and navigation...

Just a little update.
Until I get a new Phone (and might buy an Original bmw cradle for this), I decided to get the Belkin I mentioned in my first post.

Happy for now, it mounts easy and looks great (pictures from an old Phone, just to show how it looks mounted):

I use this mount from Omaker. I mount it to the windshield behind the mirror, the arm telescopes down so my phone is directly below the rear view mirror. The phone sits on a platform with an opening for the charger and is squeezed (gently but firm) from the sides to hold it in place. Easily within reach, and I can see it without looking down. I only use it for Waze (sorry my BMW nav is not good).

Good thing is that the holder comes with 3 mounts (telescoping, vents, flat surface) and you don't need to change/add a case to the phone to have them work together.

When I first got my car, I bought one of those BMW snap in holders that fits inside the central armrest. Expensive but neat. However, I kept forgetting about the phone in there because it was out of site. This was just a nuisance when parking at the office or at home but when I nearly left my phone in there in the airport car-park, I decided enough was enough. So I prefer to have it stuck to the dash on a magnet in plain view so I won't forget it
