Cabin Air Filter Change Gone Wrong - Crank, No Start
My 2015 BMW 650i Gran Coupe cranks but won't start after I had disconnected the negative battery cable to do a cabin filter change.
The battery was only disconnected for about 30 minutes and I find it strange that the time and date was erased that quickly. Car won't automatically update time and date now. Codes I am getting are: 930890 - EWS: DME/DDE Secret Key not written or not locked 1B2001 - Electronic Immobiliser Protection against tampering B7F32B - GSM Aerial: open circuit S 0751 - Permanent SAE fault codes stored. In Ista+ the CAS module is showing yellow, when I go through the troubleshooting it says replace Car Access System DIAGCODE: D6100_CAS00000_90_003 however, CAS module reads ECU responding properly when I click on the ECU function. For the EWS: DME/DDE Secret Key not written or not locked code, the Ista+ Measure in service states: Renew the Car Acess System control unit The car has been down since last week, but today when I hooked up ista+ again in an attempt to do some more troubleshooting I have new codes in red that weren't there initially with this problem, such as TRSVC/iCAM - ECU not responding and SWW - Lane change warning was in red as well indicating ECU not responding. I also had a new code today which was 030215 - SHD: No normilization (something with sunroof) When I clear faults the only fault left is 930890 - EWS: DME/DDE Secret Key not written or not locked. When I try to start the car again several faults come back up. I am wondering if it is just the CAS module like others have told me or if there is something wrong with another module, such as the Central Gateway Module (ZGM) or Front Electric Module (FEM) / Body Control Module (BCM). I have an appt with BMW next week but I'm hoping to get some guidance in the meantime, thanks! |

Curious why you disconnected the battery to change the cabin air filter.
As for the clock, which I realize is the least of your problems, I assume it has not automatically updated for nearly 2 years. Other than GPS for navigation, your car has no connection to the outside word anymore since ATT ended 3G in early 2022. |

When I changed mine...I considered undoing the negative battery cable since the connector for the dash air bag is attached to that panel...but after seeing that I could carefully move the panel out of the way without disconnecting the air bag...I opted to not disconnect the battery cable. You may want to consider that in the future...IF...you can move around the under-panel safely and not disconnect the airbag connector. The EWS codes is what's scary. That is probably the reason the car is not starting. Do you have a 2nd remote? If you do, try using that remote to see if it will start the car. And have you tried placing the remote next to the icon on the steering wheel column? If not, try that too in case there is something hindering the communication between the transponder in the remote fob and the CAS & DME modules. EWS is an immobilizing start feature of your car.

Yes in hindsight I wish I never disconnected it. Unfortunately I only have one key, but I did try putting it against the steering column. I have send my CAS, both DMEs and Gateway module with key to get checked out and synced. Hopefully it's nothing more than that. Never disconnecting this battery again what a nightmare.
Thank you for the sunroof reset instructions I'll try that once this thing starts again hopefully Quote:
