Lost my runflats (RFT)

Winter is approaching and I have not had luck finding a set of square OEM all season wheels/tires. So I went with the Conti DWS all around for $1,050 from Discount Tire (including insurance).

Here is my quick feedback after a day of light driving.

I'm not sure I would tell people to ditch their run-flats if they had 20" wheels and I think I would tell you to keep your run-flats if you have the 19s.

While the ride is MUCH better - it feels less sporty. The minute I got in the car after the new tires were put on, I thought -wow, the steering wheel is much easier to turn. I thought it was PERFECT before with the run-flats. Ultimately the car feels much more luxurious and almost feels like it has lost some of its sporty edge.

On the plus side, I think I can actually feel a difference between comfort and sport in terms of the ride. Before, I only noticed the transmission.

So the trade off is, no more "ouch, that hurt" when hitting an unexpected pothole. And now it is more of a "hmm, I appear to be in a luxury car now".

I'll post more after additional time behind the wheel.

Thanks for the Non Run Flat review.

Since I did a similar change out going from my OEM Dunlops RFT to the Nitto 555 HP Summer tires your comments are very good and accurately describe the difference. The car is more luxurious feeling but performs better in turns and off the line. Wonder how the Dinan Shockware addition would match up or a suspension upgrade?

I ditched my 20" RFT the dealer before delivery. Made them swap out my 19" Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on the car. Steering feels great and ride is much better. Had the 19" RFTs on my 550i and quickly got ride of them for these. So much better.
