Hmmm, now I have to decide whether I just get ahead of this potential problem and get non-polarized lenses put into my sunglasses before I go on European Delivery. I want to be able to take advantage of the HUD. Hmmmm. I'll have to see.

It would be a stretch to see how they would allow him to have access to what amounts to a free rental, brand new M6 that they would then have to resell as a dealer demo car with several hundred miles on the odometer and then ship him a HUD car with 4 miles on it.

I will check my HUD when I get my car back from the MOD shop tomorrow. From what I have seen so far, I can adjust the HUD through the idrive to negate the polarization in the glasses. I can try taking pictures through my polarized glasses for proof.

I have had this problem with several polarized devices on a couple of cars - the main display panel and the heads up were the main offenders. I think I first discovered this while filling up at a gas station and trying to see the LCD display on the pump. While looking at the display I tilted my head a little as I reached to put the nozzle up and the display suddenly became very clear. It was either that or when I had to slightly tilt my head (can't remember why) reaching for something in the car and discovered that rotating the glasses brought my sunglasses' polarization into alignment with the polarization of the main display and I could clearly see it. Try tilting your head while looking at the display you are trying to see. If you don't see any improvement, remove your glasses and rotate them just in front of an eye. You should see that the display is easily visible when they are oriented one way but when rotated about 90 degrees from that orientation the display all but disappears. . When I got some new sunglasses the guy who made them was able to cut the lens so that when my head was in a normal position the two worked together (instead of competing and canceling out the light) and I was able to clearly see the display. I realize a new set of lens for your sunglasses can be kind of expensive (especially if you use glass lens) but I think polarized ones are essential, around here anyway. Under certain conditions they really improve visibility a great deal. I'd have new lens cut for my glasses in a heartbeat to have the display panel and heads up working without having to contort y head to see them. All you have to do is take a piece of the lens material out to your car and rotate it until the problem device looks the best. Then keep it in that orientation so the glasses guy can cut the lens to have that orientation. They might be able to do it based on you determining which orientation works with your current glasses. This worked for me - I have no trouble at all. Last edited by chask; 06-04-2015 at 07:19 PM.. |

Whew.... Ouch!
HUD is extremely nice and very useful in these cars. I've seen HUD in other cars and they pail in comparison to the M6. You will definitely want HUD. Brian

One thing I am getting used to is the fact the car goes to Neutral when the car stops moving... This break in period is rough... I sooooo much want to experience the FULL potential of this car!! ....in any case, cruising with the B&O playing your favorite tune while in a VERY VERY comfortable air conditioned seat is invigorating!! Oh yeah... The HUD is soooo clear and BRIGHT!

UPDATE:
BMW canceled the first car (the one without the HUD) so the option to take that car is off the table. After reading all the responses here, there was no way I was going to take that car anyway. BMW is going to produce another car with my correct specs, (including HUD!) and the car will be built in time, but the problem now is to see it it can be delivered while I am still in Munich. It is still not clear what they will do to accommodate. You would think they could find a way... I did offer to just take delivery in the parking lot without the usual fanfare, if need be. As for a rental car compensation, 2 days in a standard car -- that's it. So far, my first ever BMW purchase and first ED has not been much fun, but I am hoping it will get better in time. Thanks for all the input. I will post when I know more. |

Trust me after almost 26 years driving the manual cars I can tell you DCT is a master piece of engineering works much more efficient than MT. I admit MT is fun to drive and you feel more connected to the car, but DCT is another fun part. Meanwhile, this sequential structure has additional kickdown mode available to skip several gears (ie from 7 to 2) if you want to. If you are interested to know about these two transmissions you can watch these videos to understand how MT works and then compare it to DCT. How Manual Transmissions Work! How clutch works Dual Clutch Transmissions - Explained How Dual clutch transmission works And this is ZF 7DCT explanation which is similar to MDCT (Getrag 7DCI700) DCT DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION

Teasing or not, it doesn't change the fact that " I am waiting for your pick up date at Crevier " to get behind the wheel of M6 MT

The automated updates from the 800 number finally says "your vehicle is at the port awaiting a shipping vessel- there is no shipping information available at this time" so the fact that that's finally updated rather than a person having to tell me live updates is hopefully a good thing that I'm getting on the boat that leaves Monday!!!

When building the car and before submitting my order- you can add the HUD without the executive package (1300)or it comes included when you add the executive package (4k) If you don't add either one, then it doesn't come with the car.

BTW, I've asked my dealer to answer whether one can adjust the polarity etc. in iDrive to accommodate polarized sunglasses. Absent some affirmative answer, I am going to need to get non-polarized sunglasses.
