Oil usage
So after having putting near 8000 miles on the car its starting to burn oil. The warning never went on prior initial break in 1200 miles but since then its burned 2 quarts normal or not?

I've heard that when it says to add a quart that it really needs close to 2 quarts so put extra and see how that goes.

The level indicator on mine has just gone down one notch since the running in service, now on 6,125 miles. If the level indicator is accurate, that's 1/4L in just under 5,000 miles (1L is very nearly the same as 1 US Quart, so that's about 1/2 Pint).

I think that your right. I just added a quart when the warning came up. I did not really verify if it was full the light just was the indicator.
Anyhow the car seems great, I know when I had my Z06 with a blower on it it ate oil at a rate of about 1qt per 3k miles. |

Depends on your driving style. What weight oil did you use ?
I would deff not over fill your engine, that is bad. Make sure your engine is at operating temp when adding and be sure to run the oil level measurement before adding again. |

Both of my previous M cars (E64 M6 and F10 M5) burned oil... especially with Highway or hard driving.
I always keep 2 quarts in the trunk... ALWAYS. Mostly because our oil can't be found at most auto parts stores.

As a matter of interest, where do you keep the oil in the trunk? One of the minor gripes about the car is the lack of cubby holes in the trunk for keeping things like oil.

You won't be over filling.... the oil pan for these cars is huge and can handle some more oil. When I need a quart I put 1 1/2 quarts..

Why, where else, but it's own little home I do agree, the E64 had a nice netted pocket on the side of the trunk that held the previous ones though.

That's what I say but my service advisor told me that.

When prompted, add a Quart, run for another 30 minutes or so, then measure the oil level. Add 1/4 Quart for each mark the level is below full.

Then when you damage your engine because your were over filling because your "service advisor" told you to. Make sure you have that in writing.
Overfilling can cause damage just like being too low. Don't think that just because they are an advisor they know what they are talking about. Read your owners manual, it clearly states it in there. |

over filling is an issue not due to high pressure (basic science).
It is an issue as the crank WILL beat the oil... or as a mental excersice imagine pounding your fist into the pool... now the energy of the crank is ALOT more than a fist. Will shred the crank in no time, not an issue if the system is a dry sump but that S63TU is not. |

on the consumption side.
Coming for other turbo cars with a heck of a lot more power. I find the reasoning suspect as that would cause some serious emission issues especially as much as some folks have reported. But that might also be due to the "soft" engine break-in. Turbo motors need to be broken in hard. why? Pressure makes the rings expand. |
