BMW Navigation

Does anyone else have issues with the BMW navigation? I have a 2013 F13. I upgraded the files in September 2016.

I don't use the navigation much but on the two occasions that I have, it has failed miserably.

The first, it took me to an address about 3 miles north of the intended destination. The second it took the worst route possible, including trying to put me on a limited access toll road that would have required a 15 mile round trip to get to the two mile destination. Right up until the last turn, it was still trying to go the opposite direction.

I'm going to use it to navigate back to my house the next time I bring it into work (too snowy today....) and see how it does.

Anyone else experience this? I guess my option is to reload the maps and see if that helps unless someone else has a better suggestion.

Thanks for the assistance.

I have not had these issues or anything like them with my 2014

Not sure where you are in PA, but if you are anywhere near Scranton/Wilkes Barre all bets are off. My 2010 X5M couldn't find its own ass with two hands, a mirror and a flashlight in that god forsaken city.

Reloading the maps is probably a waste of time. Check the route preferences.

Depending on which firmware you vehicle has as well as updated maps makes a big difference.

My pre-LCI used to alert me that I had arrived only after passing. And, before updating maps, it tried to take me on roads that did not exist.

With my new system, I get alerts of the side of the street at least a block before arrival.

BMW's systems have been pretty good in my experience. I've had nav on my BMW's since 2001, and I don't hesitate to rely upon them. Sounds like you may have a route preference issue and potentially a map/firmware issue, as well.

I upgraded the firmware before I updated the maps around September of 2016. I will check the preferences but that doesn't account for some of the obviously wrong directions. Though it did pass up the highway onramp for a back road, on my way home the other day. Other than that small irritation it routed fine back to my house.

I'm near Pittsburgh where the roads run over top of each other, come together then diverge again and change names as they roll through each little borough or township. I don't know how navigation finds most of the places in this town. And trying to give directions pre-GPS days was hilarious (yinzer landmarks!!).

Slight side note, how do you go about updating the maps? I live in an area thats been developing heavily in the last 3-4 years and most streets do not show up on my 2014 (new to me) 640.

Download maps, place on USB, connect to car port, agree to update, and let it run for ~40 minutes.

You are welcome. You may or not be asked for FSC code before update. Maps are 30 GB, so you need 32+ GB flash drive.
