I still can't wrap my head around the middle rear seat. Is that a lap belt, or LATCH anchors, or something else?

Bmw calls it "4+1". It is designed to seat five, if only for a short time.

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle.../overview.html

"With the driver-orientated cockpit and its 4+1 seating concept, which can accommodate up to three people in the rear on short trips, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé clearly shows that it stops at nothing in its pursuit for perfection."

However, that is as specific of a description as I've seen.

You can definitely install a child seat in either of the two outboard seats. It still isn't clear to me whether a child seat can be installed in the center seat.

Looks like a lap belt. Not sure where passenger legs will go?

A legal seat in a pinch.

The new CLS will do just fine. Value wise it is much better. MSRP is cheaper and has ttV8. Doesn't hurt it is a stunning as well.

If you are a BMW fanatic, you now have your 4-door coupe option.
