Dash Camera
Can anyone recommend a decent dash camera? Probably want one at the front and the back.
I recently had someone did a hit and run on my rx8 when it was parked outside. Of course the cameras in around the area was too shate to see the registration. The RX8 is cheap enough to fit since I'd buy a panel @ £50 and do a bit of DIY in the weekend! Don't fancy this happening on the 6 so looking to buy a semi decent one. I saw some really cool ones on aliexpress that has android built into the the unit itself. Linky But since it is from aliexpress can't be that good. Might get that one for the rx8 but any suggestions ? Would it work if the car is off? The worse thing is for someone to hit and run and not get their regi |

Try contacting Octopump on this or the other forum. I believe he's doing dash cams as well as coding now.

I have been using BlackVue and has been very satisfied with it.
Tried different brand, and I don't like it. I also seen a few of my customers using the basic dashcam, it is do-able, but I still prefer the BlackVue. I think it is the most featured dashcam out there.

PowerMagic Pro will allow continuous power to the Dashcam without depleting the car battery. The only issue, BMW system is very sensitive where sometime you will get an excessive battery drain message.

I was using a Transcend pro 200 and found it pretty good. Just under £100 too so not a bad price

Left field approach to this - I have Möbius 2 cameras front and rear. Excellent performance, can be mounted extremely low profile for an almost invisible fit, and cost about £70 each delivered. Need to replace the internal batteries with capacitors if you intend on hard wiring, which is the only logical thing to do. They are almost perfect dash cams.

I use the BMW's advanced car eye front and back fitted from new. It's costly nearly £400 but it's worth every penny. Also records in parking mode 10 seconds prior and after if it senses movement or a knock.
It is sensitive but you can adjust the settings to suit but be aware software needed to view recordings properly has to be PC not Mac. |

do you have any pictures of it fitted? I know these BMW ones are just rebranded ones found on eBay but it's all about the fitting for me, I want it to be sleek and as hidden as possible. Did they fit it?

Blackvue user here in mine, the older GW version as opposed to the newer S models.
Overall they are good, only downside is the cost, the unit is fairly discrete in comparison with some at this level, unfortunately the smaller size seems to compromise some elements of the video quality. It really comes down to how much you want to spend v size v quality of the recordings Lucas if you want quality and have good budget would be my choice, the units at the top end are large though. Blackvue a good compromise, but it is genuinely is not as great in video quality terms against the lucas You go cheaper you have the option of mobius, transcend etc. although these tend to focus more on 1 channel as opposed to 2 channel (F & R). Note the camera system makes it a pig to mount a dashcam (larger units with the screen like the BMW one will have to go to the left, my blackvue neatly sits behind the mirror, directly underneath the cars camera. The 6 is made more difficult thanks to the aggressive angles of the front and rear screen so make sure they have plenty of movement in the mounts. |
