DASH Design
Has everyone lost thier marbles?? this move from a beautiful flowing and wholly integrated dash to one that has a TV sitting in the middle of the dash is ridiculous. I took a 6 for a test drive. When I got in the car I told the sales rep he could "drop the screen." Thats when I was first told that the stupid screen sitting like a wart on the dash and in plain view would not retract.
What a great car. But what a stupid idea not to have that silly screen retract. Now they are doing the same thing to the X5 and others in their line up. Its gross. I thought the new ML's interior sucked because of all the brightwork. But at least they dont put a big lump of coal in the middle of the dash that i have to stare at. When are these guys going to get this message. At he Tor car show the sales guys told me EVERYONE is complaining about the botched 6 and 3 series dashboards. So I guess its a range rover to get the groceries. And yes i passed on the 6 too. |

I actually think its silly to have the screen pop in and out. It's just not necessary and kinda 1990's. I mean really, what's the point in hiding the screen in the dash ?
The 6's interior is gorgeous. The only thing I would change is the rear seat legroom but that seems to be the norm for this segment. |

A popping up screen is one of the dumbest and annoying things one could integrate in a car. You use the screen all the time while you're driving, so how would it make sense for it to hide? The huge 10.2" screen in the new Bimmers is freakin awesome.

That screen deserves all the attention it gets on the dash. I cant see why anyone would want to hide it within a shroud.
Actually, i think that the whole interior on the new 6 is teh sex. |

The interior is very well designed in terms of looks, materials, and functionality. The picture quality on the screen is astonishing, and the graphics just add to the sophistication of the beast.

I dont think any of you get it. Why are you spending time looking at that big dumb screen? Or is it your girlfriend that's influencing you. There is NO NEED for the big stupid screen in the first place. Wat function is it other than NAV that demands a small television set??
Not everyone likes this dumb thing. So why not hide for those who hatre it? then both caps are happy. |

re read a couple more comments... The comments related to screen quality absolutely floor me. Why does the quality of a screen that tells you what song is paying have ANY relevance to a discussion about one of the overall best driver's cars in the world?? DOnt any one get me wrong: I love BMW. Porsche and MErc too. What angers and frustrates me is watching these companies completely forget and then disavow their core brand values. Look inside the new 911 - GROSS!!! THe cabin is getting crowded (as they raise that stupid center console - something we rip out immediately in race cars) and kitchy - see all the new brightwork. Ugh.

Agree. I prefer it as is. Best interior in the BMW line currently. No concerns about the display. I always use it so why deal with something else to break trying to hide it.
Also think the new 911s are a big improvement too. First one I'd consider buying. |
