BMW Revises Recommended Oil Change Intervals to 10,000 Miles for 2014+ Models

COMMENTS

BMW has changed its long time recommended oil change mileage intervals for all 2014 models and beyond. The changes apply to all vehicles produced from July 2013 on.

Previously, BMW recommended a 15,000 mile / 24 month Condition Based Service interval, but as of July 2013, the new basic interval will be every 10,000 miles / 12 months. This applies to both gasoline and diesel models.

The Z4 roadster, M5/M6 and ActiveHybrids have some special recommendations, which you can see in the announcement and charts below.

I can't believe they're only doing 7/13 builds and up!

Very interesting that BMW has "changed" their minds on the OCI.

I think what this really means is that for all of us who have been changing their oil at 5K mile intervals... we have probably been doing it right all along - for long term engine life health. IMO 10K is still too long to go on an oil change.

The way my 650i has burned through oil, I've already had a full oil "change" before 10k.

The oil change intervals for BMW's used to be every 7500 miles before they started the free maintenance BS back in 2001.

I hear you on that. When I had my X6, I used to question them about the oil change intervals, and they assured me everything is fine. And everything did seem fine.

Now with the GC, I need a top off about every 1000 miles, and that tells me everything is not fine...

Well, I think people are too busy second-guessing BMW. My last two BMWs (750,645) both had their oil changed strictly on CBS which was typically around 25,000 kms. Both cars are problem free and heading to 200,000 kms each.

My current GC shows an oil change due at 24,000 kms and that's what I'll do. It's presently just short of 10,000 kms (6,000 miles) and has used no oil at all.

Incidentally, the oil is Castrol Synthetic 5W30.

Cheers,
Bill
