Best de catted downpipes
Hi Guys,
Wanted some feedback on what people have used in regards to catless downpipes. I have a Akrapovic exhaust system atm with stock DPs so kewn to upgrade and then tune the car. Any feedback on best brands and value or just high quality catless DPs? Thanks |

Best value would be taking the OEM DPs or buying a used set for <$500 and gutting them as a DIY.
I bought a set of aftermarket catless DPs off ebay (brand = BBMR). I haven't installed them yet, so fitment is still TBD. Another member on the post had BBMR DPs and said they fit perfectly, so I'm hoping it works out for my install as well. |

Another option just got released -- $600 catless DPs from VSRF. I had a good experience w them on my N54, so it's worth looking into. Check the M5 forum for more info.

You can buy GT Haus or Evolution Racewerks still. Both are great brands with perfect fitment. My only recommendation is to have them ceramic coated or use the heat wraps. The factory catalytic convertor absorbs heat and when removing the "cat" all the heat will be baking the back of the cylinder heads and there reviews from engine builders that this is creating issues. Wrap them or ceramic coat and you are good to go. Some powercoat facilities offer ceramic coating on average $100 per downpipe. |

I got you, Bought the Akra ones for my F80, they were pre wrapped and also had the bellows built into them.A friend of mind bought some from another company without the bellows and was getting quite bad vibration from them.I coupled the pipes with the Awron gauge, this was handy to get rid of the cell light. I note with the F13 you've got to get a remap to get rid of it, which is a bit of a bugger . |

I've been running Active Autowerke's Downpipes for over a year now and they are great. Always impressed with what active offers.

Cautionary note -- stay far, far away from BBMR downpipes. Their DP on the passenger side was so f'd up there was no way for the shop to install it. The seller doesn't care and refused to work with us on a timely solution. Finally, he agreed that I could return it for a refund, but shipping would be on my dime. Nevermind that I had to pay an add'l 2 hrs of labor and that I spent $150 for Swaintech to coat them. Horrible experience all around.
Luckily, VRSF sent their DPs to us this week. They also were not perfect fitment and required modification. I'm picking up the car tomorrow and hoping I didn't get charged add'l labor for the modification to the VR pipes. If so, now I gotta deal with VR and try to get some compensation for the labor necessary to fix their pipe as well. |

My recommendation is to gut your OEM downpipes or buy another set off Ebay for $300-$500 and gut them. They are double walled so you won't have heat issues in back cylinders, won't have any waste gate rattle, and fitment is perfect.
Too many horror stories about poor fitment on almost every brand of downpipes. |
