Your choice: Two 650i GC or One Aston Martin Rapide S?

There was a thread and some discussion a while back about how grossly overpriced the 650 GC was when compared to the Audi S7, esp. when you take into account performance numbers.

Well, then, how about this comparison. The 650i GC is about 110-115k, and the Rapide S is a cool 225k.

Performance-wise the Rapide S is no better, and in many instances worse, than the 650i GC.

So, which would you rather have? A matching pair of GCs, or one Rapide S?

(Or better yet, a troika of S7s, or one Rapide S?).

Garage List
650xi GC (or, better yet, M6 GC) with Individual and M Sport packages AND an M3.

I drove a Rapide that a friend of mine was selling for a client. These cars are worlds apart and cannot be compared. The GC is sloppy, unrefined and simple in comparison (and I LOVE my GC). Everything from the door hinges to the way the carpeting meets the console trim is superior in the Aston. Pushbutton shifting, amazingly compliant suspension and a limited slip rear end make the M6 a more suitable nemesis. Even the engine starter noise is superior sounding let alone the novelty of putting your glass key into the center mount ignition and watching it illuminate. I would take a used Aston over a new BMW any day if I wasn't so concerned about maintenance costs.

I am a tech guy, not much of a speed/handling guy, so I would choose the GC just for that. Also coming from range rovers, I don't trust the British when it comes to gadgets and technology.

If you want something more exotic go with the rapide, thats probably why all of us paid more for the 650 gc instead of just getting a 550 or even an m5.

For better comparison, M6 GC or Rapide S would suffice.

Dare I say this on a Bimmer forum, myself born and bred of Bimmer heritage? I'd go Rapide S. But like others have mentioned, maintenance is murky on Astons and I'd take a long pause before choosing.
