M6 must be a really good all-rounder consider it's not the fastest around the track and weight over 2 tons and still won the test.
The SL is a beast, that Torque can literally take it into the Hyper-car territory. But I do have to say that, if the SL is a 4 seater like the XKR and M6, It will Probably weight similar to the M6 as well.

Exactly! That's what I was thinking!

How about no rear seats.............I guess in a crunch you will have to make two trips or tell friends to go take a hike.

Also, neither of the 3 are any feather weights. It is like comparing 3 sumo wrestlers and declaring the one that weighs less the winner.

Those that claim whats the big deal....that the two rear seats should not cost more then 40 lbs each in weight. All I have to say is you must have lost your mind fellows. Maybe we should buy you guys two seats and see how easily you would fit them into a SL63 AMG.......wow......I mean seriously.....some people are just talking non sense. It is one thing to criticize but another to bash with ignorance.

The M6 Conv. did not do better in brakes department. It must not have been Ceramic brakes. None the less good win for BMW

I've checked also auto motor und sport online magazine yesterday and 650 convertible took the first place against sl550 and the new porsche 911 convertible s
For sure M6 coupe will be better in terms of performances, it's the only GT with a CF roof, too bad the CC brakes are not available yet, I think they are a must for this heavy and sporty cars!

Looks like MB is the winner if you don't factor in the price. How I see it is at that pricepoint people don't shop for grocery getters, they shop for performance and luxury, so they are willing to pay for it.

IMHO BMW winning just because it is cheaper than the competition is super lame, you are comparing luxury performance coupes, not entry level mass produced sedans (think 3ers vs C-class in which case price would be almost EVERYTHING).

I think you're wrong. And everyone claiming that the M6 isn't as good as a Sl63 because of speed and weight is wrong.

The Sl63 is a two seater, roadster. The M6, is a 4 seater, GT coupe. They are two completely different classes of cars, but the M6 likely won here because despite being several pounds heavier, seating two more people, it was still able to keep up with SL...granted it didn't win, and it shouldn't have. AMG engineering isn't so bad that a two door, 4 seater variant of a M5 would beat there two seater SL63 roadster.

Honestly, a fair comparison would be if the CLS63 came as a coupe or if the E63 came as a coupe. And I'm fairly sure the M5 beats the CLS around the track and so would a M6.

I am by no means bias to BMW, personally have bought a S-class over the 7 series two times in a row in the past 6 years.

Like someone said the merc has a hard top for gods sakes to boot. Just not acceptable. I thought I would always be a bmw guy-Loved the pure performance they used to offer but I have to say sometimes it takes them getting bitch slapped back to reality for them to regain some of their original passion and get back on track
I hope this post was a joke? Because just the first two statements that you made here make it clearly obvious that you know nothing about the BMW brand.

In what world has a Z8 ever been a competitor for a SLK AMG? Do you even know what a SLK is? A SLK is a competitor for a Z4 and if there were a M variant to the Z4 then that would be a competitor for the slk AMG.

And also as far vehicle design and weight go, sure, if you want to believe that
40 pounds is the weight of a seat then fine, but have common sense in the fact that the M6 would not be the same size vehicle if it were a roadster. I'm sure BMW has enough engineering expertise to know that they can't just remove two seats and call it a roadster....they would have to make the car smaller which would likely compensate for the weight difference.

Seriously a Z8 is a slk competitor?

If the M6 is slower by less than a second to be a much better all-rounder, it deserves to win considering all it's faults. Usually I would agree with you, someone looking at 100k+ cars isn't really bothered by price but when performance is pretty much the same, being 50k more expensive for no gain in performance deserves to be a factor.

Wow, just think how much faster the M6 vert would be if they could get the weight down 200 kg, closer to the Benz...

I'm not thinking....I'm just enjoying my ride. Different class of cars...apples and oranges. I've had an SL55 (R230 body) so I don't really care for another SL even with the newer engine.
