Hey guys. I've been reading a lot but can't find an organized answer and was hoping for some help.
I'm currently in a 13 RS5 and want to move to 4 doors with my new kid now here. I've decided on an M6 GC as the RS7 doesn't do it for me and there's really nothing out there better. I don't want to sound arrogant but payments/MSRP don't really matter that much for this car, however I've noticed massive depreciation in the first 1-2 years of ownership on these cars - ranging from $30-50k CAD off MSRP - though I understand dealers often take roughly 10% off new. I really can't ignore that and would consider CPO. That being said I would consider a new build if the numbers were right, but have found several amazing deals on MY14-15 cars. I also am in no rush and could really wait until next year for some used MY16s or low km 14/15s off lease. Are there any big jumps in features/tech between the model years that would drive you to hold out for a 15 over 14, 16 over 15, etc? I have the luxury of time and know the only thing I require on my car is the m-sport/akra which I can add later. I also currently drive (well my wife drives) a 15 X5 35d and i previously had a 12 X6 50. I miss the V8 but appreciate the diesel and really enjoy the better iDrive - not sure where the GC iDrive compares. Thanks for the help. |

You right about depreciation. Just got a 2013 M6 and it was 53% below original msrp.

I was heavily shopping for an M6 GC here in Toronto for the past few months.
Here are my thoughts... The M6 GC is HEAVILY overpriced from the factory, the car should not be 30k more than an M5. While it is a MUCH nicer car IMO, its just not worth 30k more. On top of that, BMW's interest rate/residuals are worse on the M6. So it becomes even more than just a 30k difference. I cross shopped a brand new M5 with Ultimate Package and a brand new M6 with Ultimate and the lease payment was about $600 a month more. I was willing to pay more for the M6 no doubt, but not $600 more. That said, it came down to a brand new M5 (as the lease was reasonable (about $1500)) vs a 1-2 year old M6 GC. I was on autotrader daily, checking out inventory and see what was popping up. My research indicated that you can pick up a 14-15 M6 GC (with approx. 20-30000km on it) for about $100-105. There was even a 2016 with only 5000km in BC asking $115k, and it could have been yours for $110k most likely. BMW doesn't seem eager to move these brand new units as there isn't many around, so their incentives are crap on them. That said, I would avoid a brand new M6 GC as you are guaranteed to lose 50k in year 1. If you can buy a 2015 used for 100k, the MSRP on a well equipped car would be in the high 140s. Good luck

Honestly I think CPO is probably your best bet - as others have said above me depreciation hits hard for the first 3 years and in the big scheme of things there really weren't many changes made to the M6 GC over the past couple of years.

2016 was the facelift...so 2014/2015 are pretty much the same car. Identical from the outside, that is for sure. Perhaps there was some small technical stuff but I'm not certain of that.
