Rim questions
Guys, I'm looking to change my rims. I love the stock rims, but I want them in black. Not sure if they come from factory that way, or I can purchase them aftermarket, or paint them. I want them like in the attached picture. Thanks in advance.

343m can come in black, head to the m6 page on the BMW website and you'll see it.
You could get yours changed to black or of course buy new ones. If you go to the best picture of your m6 thread someone recently posted with silver faces on their spokes but the inner barrel changed to black, which I think looks quite good. |

Powder Coating by a pro shop will be less than $1,000.

Thanks!! I've heard of others doing that, I never tried. Does it hold up well? I'm going to change my tires out as well. I just learned I can use the stock rims. I want to go up to 305's. Better traction, obviously. Will need especially after a few upgrades.

Don't cut corners with plastic dip or any other paint. Just take your wheels in to get Powder coated in high gloss black and any reputable powder coat shop. Florida has hundreds of them. Powder coating a wheel at the best shops here in NYC costs about $125 per wheel. I would expect it to coast about $100 per wheel in FL.

I don't see plasti dip as cutting corners, it has surpassed vinyl by far and when professionally done you get professional results. Check out dipyourcar.com and you will see what they are doing these days with plasti dip, it's pretty amazing.

My wheels are plastidipped high gloss black. I'm not looking to powder coat. Plastidip is a great cheap way to change your wheel color but with the amount of brake dust and other elements it'll start to look dingy and ugly. Trust me. Just powder coat. You'll be much happier

I paid $200 for the wheels. A pro will mask off your brakes and spray around 5-6 coats black base and then 3 coats of clear. I use BDP spray on the wheels to clean, it protects the plasti dip and melts off brake dust and dirt, then i wipe down with a clean fiber towel and some detail spray. If you grind the dirt into any finish its going to wear it down over time, plastidip is not some kind of magical coating, you still have to clean and protect it. Now if you own the car and don't mind the permanent color change go with powder coating, it is superior but for a leased car or someone wanting to keep the original finish on the wheels plastidip works even if you have it removed and reapplied, it's roughly $300 every year or two with them adding $100 for removing the old coating and respraying.

I've seen some badly plastidipped wheels that have started to come off. The gloss can never be as shiny either. For the small difference of $300 to do all the wheels plus not needing some maintenance like coating and spraying, I would go with powder coating.

In regards to tuning as I see you keep talking about the JB4 vs. flashing, in my opinion it is superior to a flash in the sense that you retain the vehicles value in that the flash counter does not move and down the road it's going to matter if you own and want to sell the car or if a major failure happens you'll be covered, with a flash you'll be paying for the damages even if they were not related to tuning. Plus you can't datalog anything with a flash, you can't change maps on the fly, monitor boost, etc. Different strokes for different folks |
