M6 Brake squeaking ??
I have a 2016 competition package m6 coupe. Literally, no exaggeration, every time I brake I hear the most horrible sound, just like my brakes are rubbing rotors. Bmw checked the pads and said they are almost brand new. My M4 made the same sound, but only in reverse. It's definitely not a rock stuck in the fender, but it's annoying AF!! Anyone else getting this?

That's normal. Just think about it you have a 4300 lb car. It;s big , heavy and powerful so need high performance brakes! There are many threads here and over M5post about this noise and it's normal... You need to learn how to live with it

Having said that, I had them replaced rotors and pads 3 times in 3 years to fix the issue for couple months but the noise would come back like a champ

You need to bed the brakes here and there to get rid of the glazing on the rotors. Basically a hard stop from 60-70mph a few times in a row and they'll be good for a while. Otherwise this is the price we pay for a 600hp car that weighs 4200lbs and needs to stop on a dime.

My brakes are silent. I'll trade you cars even up.

You need to do a hard stop a few times and get the glaze off of them. In stop and go these heavy beasts heat up these large rotors more than the cars that normally run these sized brakes and it creates a glaze coating on the rotor. I don't really mind it. I'm like yeah it squeals, but it also costs $140k and does 0-60 in under 4 seconds with 4 doors. Haha

I will. In my M4, they cleaned the pads and then sanded them down and that helped a lot.

mine used to squeak a lot when my car was new. got some new pads from dealer and they chamfered the edges of the pads and it got much better. still has occasional squeaking, but goes away after hard braking.

Yea they just did that to mine and it got a little better, but they still squeak when I brake softly coming up to a stop sign in traffic for example. Oh well, I'll have to live with it!

I had the same issue ... but after a day at the track the noise was gone!
Had a lecture on performance breaks at the track and yes the glazing and bedding the breaks is the key Not a design flaw ... but the breaks are big and need to be seated/bed in hard under hard breaking ... something most of us will never do under normal street driving One thing they did discuss when they had a session on breaks is if the cross drilled breaks crack to near the edges of the disc or greater than 1 inch then the discs are hooped ... that was a problem listed on another thread and BMW seems to be ignoring the issue when cars are still under warranty ... but then again it could be due to the amount of heat the discs must absorb and disapate under heavy breaking then not ensuring proper cool down. Interesting either way as BMW doesn't seem to keen on warranty replacement on these items Last edited by 2007 to 2016 M6 Cab; 03-27-2017 at 12:32 AM.. |

But it's about worn brakes not new brakes. I used this bulletin once to replace the brakes but as I said the noise came back couple weeks later like the other times I had them replaced the brakes (rotors and pads)...

Unfortunately was not practical for me anymore due to really no room on back seat but I have to admit that the V8TT S63tu is much much better than I6TT S55... It's really good feeling when you know 600HP is sitting underneath your foot waiting for your prompt!!! That's the main part I miss...

Does anybody notice the brakes stick pretty hard on startup after you were driving in the rain? I've noticed it before on other cars, but I guess it's just a function of massive brakes. I kind of have to give it some throttle to get the car to roll out of the garage. It's a little unsettling, but I just assume it's normal for some adhesion when the huge pads get "put up" wet and sit overnight.

Even the Track I am a member of has reported this on several M, Porsche, Alfa 4C and AMG cars they own. The Break lecture I went to also discussed this and they recommended driving the cars and riding the breaks a little as this will dry the rotors/discs and pads so this does not happen after washing the cars or garaging them when wet. This also explains why the rotors have a coat of rust on them after put away wet. Several track members with 911 GT4s, Audi R8s and Cayman GT4s have also reported this phenomenon
