Hello - 640D M-Sport

Hello guys!

Time to give an instroduction of my new car here

Well, maybe that is not entirely true, I have posted some threads here and also gotten some great answers so thanks for that

Well here is the story behind this car...For the daily drive I have a car not even worth mentioning here..But more or less being born in a BMW the interest has always been there. My summer car is a 2.5CS with S38B36

Inspired by my friend´s Alpina B3 BiTurbo I thought it was time to get a really nice car to drive the whole year around. That is was to be a BMW goes without saying. After searching and comparing the answer was there 640D x-drive!

Found the car below in Bavaria (where else to find BMWs ) Funny story behind it, bought in Austria and then sold again in Munich. The guy who bought it was just 18 years old and his father forced him to sell it! Let´s say that there had been quite some friction in the family but the father was a really nice guy and he could see the humor in the whole situation.

The son was not too pleased and unfortunately I did not get to meet him..

Anyway, this was my first experience with any newer BMW with lots of extras and I can just say that the drive home was just amazing! What a car!! Except for the lack of automatic boot there is nothing I don´t like about this car

Congratulations for purchasing one of the most elegant BMWs! Especially the color is great!

By the way, I have a question about your new 6. I am also planning to buy a used BMW with inline six diesel and I'm considering 5 and 6 series. I've recently learnt that 640d uses Active Sound Design, but have heard that it's 'discrete'.

Could you tell me if you hear any change in sound when you switch the drive mode to Sport?

Auto Motor und Sport wrote a review of BMW 750d F01 and compared its "soundtrack" to M550d (both cars have ASD). They said that in 750d the sound didn't change when switching to Sport and in M550d it did.

What would you say about your 640d? Is it more like 750d or rather like M550d (in terms of sound, of course)?

Very interesting question! I thought about it driving it on Autobahn, switched between the different modes, I think it is louder in Sport but I´m not 100%..On the other hand - it is done perfectly, there is nothing artificial about it.

750d and 550d I don´t know anything about, but it doesn't matter - get yourself a 640D : )

How do you find the ride, over in the UK the 20" wheels on run flats are pretty unforgiving on our "tired" UK road system ?

I have 19" and I´m very pleased with the ride, there are big differences in the different modes. And I don´t have experience from 20" or UK roads..Sorry, but I guess that answer didn´t help you at all..
