My 2016 order is missing HUD
I ordered a European delivery 2016 M6 and have just seen tracking confirmation that my car is being built this week. From the listed options I can see the someone messed up and forgot to order HUD from my ordering specs. This happened despite my my noting this error a few weeks ago on the purchase order. Frustrating!
BMW is offering to build another car but it wont be ready until the day of my departure from Europe. I was really looking forward to driving my M6 on my vacation. Is lack of HUD a big deal for most owners? Is it possible to have HUD installed once the car is home? Thanks Anthony |

Ouuuuccchhh-
Man, I'll be honest. At first it was distracting, but it is such a useful/amazing tool. It was one of the options I knew I HAD to have on my 2016 m6. If they aren't willing to compensate some discount to the order- I wouldn't take it. You're stuck with the car for a few years. And it's not like this is the front camera. HUD is huge IMO Not sure if it can be installed later- others here may know. If it is- than take it as long as they don't charge you dollar value for it (but residualize it into your lease) HUD comes with executive package though. Did you not get the package and order it stand alone?

If you want to live next to redline in Sequential mode, you need to have M View otherwise the engine cut off makes you nervous... and that's the only time (obviously 95% of time I drive my M6 ) I use HUD...
This monster accelerates very fast

Ask your dealer if they can install it afterwards. If they can- once it hits the vpc/prepping before you take delivery here- simply have them residualize the 1300 dollars into your payment (or if they're kind enough to waive it as compensation )

I'm not sure if they can install it afterwards because as far as I remember my 650 without HUD had different dash. The open area for HUD on dash (on top of cluster) did not exist

HUD is one of the coolest features of this car
Feels like I'm piloting a gundam robot or ironman suit putting it into overdrive mode I wouldn't take a M6 without HUD |

yeah, the HUD is super super nice. I love the M view, and I also enjoy the nav directions being right up there in my vision.... big fan all around.

I first had HUD on my 2009 X5 and I've been hooked up ever since. It's definitely one of the most useful features in a car, I miss it when I drive my other cars. Besides that, I think it's kinda lame to not have that in such a great car like an M6. These issues are always delicate, when I ordered my M5 the dealer messed up the order and I didn't get full leather, even though I had Individual Silk Grey leather interior. I demanded a new car and they would do that, but eventually we negotiated and they ordered the parts and installed them and gave me a warranty extension. They also threw in a brand new E92 M3 at the time as loaner for almost a month, and also a 7 series... Unfortunately I don't think they can install it afterwards. Get a new car! |

Can you make them build it correctly while you're there/ASAP, pay for you to rent a car during the trip until it's ready, then at least you can see it/drive it a bit at the end of the trip?

Negotiating this with the dealer now. I will post how it turns out. I will need to rearrange my return flight as well since I am booked to depart from Zurich.

I am with everybody on this. The HUD on BMWs is very well done, it was one of the main reasons I upgraded to the M6 since my previous vehicle was not equipped with one. The M view is one of the best implementations of a HUD I have seen and it is absolutely a must-have. I would not consider another car without it; in fact lack of a HUD was something that immediately struck other vehicles off the list when I was cross-shopping the M6.

My only problem with the HUD, I will note from the M5 I rented last fall, is that it uses polarization techniques that are apparently screwed with by my sunglasses. So it is difficult to read with some sunglasses. Has anybody else had this problem? Or maybe it's an artifact of my aggressive colorblindness (which is also in play inside my defective head) when together with sunglasses....

So you may not be affected by it at all once you get yours.

I'll pile on and vote for HUD. I've had it since 2000 on my 6MT Vette and it's a useful tool when you're pounding the redline.
That being said, if your driving style is less aggressive, and you're using it as a cool feature or want to keep your eyes on the road while being directed by the GPS, then accept a monetary correction for the screwup and move on. |

The problem is that polarized sunglasses hide the HUD image, so you need to use non-polarized glasses, which are difficult to find. I was at the 7-series preview, and raised this issue, and it seems to still be a problem.
