I can't find the review I saw before, but I am almost positive that it is much better with polarized sunglasses now.

That being said it's still probably not going to look as good as without polarized sunglasses.

My dealer rep says: "Had to get with the house geek who sits in front of me but is off today. So all HUD have a rotation adjustment that will offset the polarization. Still, I would opt for a pair of sunglasses that might work better. How's that for a BS answer?"

So you are right. Probably fine with, but probably better without polarization.

Took a picture with my polarized glasses... yes, you occasionally lose the brightness of the HUD depending on your head's position, but as you see most of the time you can see the HUD!

Are you able to make the size of the hologram bigger by any chance Kris? Or is that standard size?

That is the standard size. Only options are brightness, height and rotation.

Great news:

BMW is going to be able to deliver the second build M6 (the one with HUD!) at the Welt on the original cars delivery date. Took a lot of effort to negotiate this but it is looking like it is all going to work out fine... Can't wait for my M6!

That's great. The ED should be a special experience, and probably, creates brand loyalty out of proportion to cost for BMW. Smart move to make it right for you!

Now I have to survive another 60 days from tomorrow until my ED M6 GC!

Why is yours still so far away? Did you order individual items?

No, that's just when the vacation timing worked out for my family. Wish it were sooner.

I have had this problem with several polarized devices on a couple of cars - the main display panel and the heads up were the main offenders. I think I first discovered this while filling up at a gas station and trying to see the LCD display on the pump. While looking at the display I tilted my head a little as I reached to put the nozzle up and the display suddenly became very clear. It was either that or when I had to slightly tilt my head (can't remember why) reaching for something in the car and discovered that rotating the glasses brought my sunglasses' polarization into alignment with the polarization of the main display and I could clearly see it.

Try tilting your head while looking at the display you are trying to see. If you don't see any improvement, remove your glasses and rotate them just in front of an eye. You should see that the display is easily visible when they are oriented one way but when rotated about 90 degrees from that orientation the display all but disappears.
.
When I got some new sunglasses the guy who made them was able to cut the lens so that when my head was in a normal position the two worked together (instead of competing and canceling out the light) and I was able to clearly see the display.

I realize a new set of lens for your sunglasses can be kind of expensive (especially if you use glass lens) but I think polarized ones are essential, around here anyway. Under certain conditions they really improve visibility a great deal. I'd have new lens cut for my glasses in a heartbeat to have the display panel and heads up working without having to contort y head to see them. All you have to do is take a piece of the lens material out to your car and rotate it until the problem device looks the best. Then keep it in that orientation so the glasses guy can cut the lens to have that orientation. They might be able to do it based on you determining which orientation works with your current glasses. This worked for me - I have no trouble at all.
Tilt head? Does that work for you? If so, I know the HUD actually is able to rotate when you go into settings, I always wondered what that was for so maybe it's for this?

You guys realize that the whole point of polarized sunglasses is to reduce glare and reflection, right? Well, that's exactly what the HUD does - it reflects off your windshield...

The one poster who suggested you have custom lenses made for your polarized sunglasses with the lenses rotated is doing nothing more than a complete waste of money. Yes - you could do this, but then you would simply waste the entire point of the polarization. Polarized glasses are purposely oriented on the horizontal. If you change that orientation, you might as well not have polarized lenses at all. This is also why the polarization effect changes as you tilt your head. If your going to alter the alignment of the polarization, do yourself a favor and just don't get it at all...

As a Commercial Pilot, I can tell you that we specifically never use polarized glasses in the cockpit as it can render the instruments unreadable in certain situations. This situation is not unique to HUDS in cars... Sunglasses without polarization are not that hard to find.

You don't really need the polarization anyway unless you are going fishing... :-)
