who else has kids and hates daycare?

I hate daycare. there is always an issue, the kids always get sick and you pay out your ass. I pay 2k a month for 2 kids (1yo,4yo). Having kids in CT is beyond expensive if you are living that middle class life. Everyone talks about college, saving for college, how about the 24K a year which you can only write off 5K that i pay for people to watch my kids. In reality I need to make 35k.

The cost of having kids is outrageous. 2 unpaid maternity leaves which she only took 9 weeks each, there is 50K of lost income. The US is terrible to pregnant women. every other first world you get at least 3 months most having 6 as paid. cant even collect unemployment.

It makes me feel better to rant and bitch, share your story on the opportunity cost of having children and the wasting of money that could be used to get a new M car!
(I love My kids very much and understand its just life but WTF. ) How much do you guys pay a babysitter. To go out for dinner its 100 before you get out the door. (15 an hours for 2 and i buy them pizza/dinner) have a few drinks you are at 300 dollars for a night out.

Yeah day care and sitters have been the most expensive parts of having a kid. All the stuff people say cost a lot of money like diapers, clothes, toys, etc. are super cheap compared to having your kids watched. Even when they start going to school you have to pay for summer camps and stuff unless you just want to take off work for a couple of months. I don't know how most people do it.

I know too many guys at work with kids whose spouses would rather work menial jobs to get out of the house which said jobs pay equal to or less than their daycare bill every month. It boggles my mind.

We sent our son to the Summit, NJ daycare from the ages of 8 months through 3.5 years old. It was a great experience for him and set him ahead of other kids in his pre-K from a socialization standpoint. The downside is that it cost $1700/month. As he got older, it became cheaper at $1500/month. We now have boy #2 and he'll probably go to daycare too. We had since moved so he won't be able to go to the same daycare unless my wife takes him with her on the way to work.

I feel your pain. If both kids were in the same daycare it would've cost $3k+/month. And the daycare tax credit is BS, little to no benefit.

Have the wife open a home daycare....unless she the high roller...you open a home daycare and you let others pay to watch their kids.
Sometimes it's just better to have one person not work at all and just take care of kids.

I try not to think about the lost wages as my wife has not returned to work--we agreed the time with our son is more valuable (he's going on 29 mos.). But, her healthcare was excellent as she worked for a financial--$250 deductible, $1,000 max out of pocket, 90/10 along the way. I would stroll into the top hospitals/clinics with that insurance as if I owned the place. Now, we have a HRA with a $4,500 deductible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, for us, daycare will start in Sept. I'm already upset my son got a $4.99 pizza 2 wks ago and didn't even finish it, forget about the $1,600/mo. for college from the hospital ride home through age 22 for college (many people I know do not do this and somehow disavow the calculation).....yep, expensive is an understatement. But I'm still resolved to keep my 335i coupe forever, and add a M2 to the stable. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it

yup costing us a little over 1000 a month for our 22 month old, but it gives them a chance to socialize and learn so much compared to kids that are at home with just mommy/daddy...

You guys in the states do get a bad deal for mat leave, it's 50 weeks of unemployment up here for the moms with some companies offering a % of top up...the guys can take a balance of the remaining weeks the moms don't use, so for me I was getting 93% of my salary for 8 months. My wife is self employed, so financially it was better for me to be at home for a longer part of the first year.

I have a HHCD 4000 but the city kicks in 2600 im on the hook for 45 a week maintenance fee and the other 1400. I was paying 130 a week but tons of 30 co pays, it started july 1 I ate through 4k by sept then it was easy sailing. its nice to see zero co pay till June 30 anyway

there is nothing reasonable about 24k a year which again is really 35-40K of real money. 760 a month the lease for the M3 is reasonable. The average family cant just shell out that much for child care.

This is one of the many reasons why I'm leaning towards not having/wanting children. I know there are many joys to having them, but after weighing it out it seems like the cons far outweigh the pros (at least for me it does).
