Advice on 6 GC
Hey guys,
Looking to get into a 6er GC. Deciding between CPO M6/650 or Brand new 640. I am coming off a 528i N20 engine. I am looking to keep the car long term (over 6 yrs). The M6 GC would be nice but realistically, after warranty expires, I was warned by my SA that maintenance is a nightmare. The price of a brand new 640 (as I am builinding it via BMW USA) with Full Merino leather, M sport, Adaptive drive, etc. comes out to be $95,795. The only other options I didn't pick out were the Bang & Olufsen sound system, Cold weather pckg, ACC Stop and Go with Night vision and Integral Steering. I did find some CPO M6 GC and 650 GC for the same price. If anyone can provide some feedback about long term ownership of 650 and M6 GC and any problems, maintenance issues or anything else you feel may be helpful, I'd appreciate it. |

Are you leasing? How much do you want to pay per month?
I am currently in a 640 gran coupe, and the power is okay for the size/weight of the car. If I were to go about it again and drove the same amount (20K miles per year) I would stick with the 640, but if I did the average 10-12K miles, I would opt for the 650. But I am looking to get into an M6 coupe later this year. Gran coupes are a bit more expensive to lease. I think its worth it because they look so nice. I haven't read of many problems with the M6, mostly with the 650 having the reduced power warning, and the battery issue every 10K miles. People have well over 60K miles on M5's (same motor), so you shouldn't have any reason to worry. |

I am financing. I have been pre-approved by my local credit union. 1.89% APR for 72 months. So pretty good deal. I have read Motor Trend 1 yr review on 2013 650 GC and they mentioned oil consumption is excessive. I would love to get into an M6 GC but the maintenance and potential issues after warranty expires scares me. My SA advised me to lease an M6 and NOT buy it. But I'd like to keep the car long term. So I am looking into a 640, or maybe 650. I average about 12,000 miles per yr and occasionally drive from San Diego to Vegas, San Francisco, Santa Barbara. This is going to be my daily driver. One dealership is trying to get me into a brand new 640 vs CPO 650 or M6 and is offering a pretty good deal. Thus, the contemplation...

I would go for a CPO 650 or M6 over the 640, but I usually keep my cars for average two years, that's why I lease. Plus it is a business write off
If you're going to keep this car for more than 5 years, I would say go for the 640. And you can get a fully loaded 640 for way less than $95k. I got a $12K discount for my car. |

It makes sense. But I don't want to get a 640 while wanting an M6. Thus, I am looking for the best deal I can get on a CPO M6 GC. It makes no financial sense, but as a car enthusiast, somehow it makes perfect sense to me.

Totally understand. I think you are heading in the right direction: first decide which one you want (640, 650 or M6) and then find the version (color, specs) you like best and is the most affordable.
And let's be honest, a new 640 will never be the same as a used M6! |
