Bone stock Comp pack M6 with CCB wins the showroom stock class in Grassroots motorsports 2013 Ultimate track car challenge and it even beat a track prepped modded E92 M3 !
It ran a 2:12x on VIR's full course
The Modded E36 ran a 2:13x.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there was only one e92 M3 in the test, and it ran a 1:56!!!

The M3 that ran closest to the M6 was a modded e36 which was 0.1s slower than the M6.

I know someone that will have an M6 CP soon.. VIR test session?

Really depends on the track, something like Nordschleife an M6 or M5 will be a good deal ahead of an M3 (stock, the GTS is something else). Then on other tracks even a 1M will be faster than both the M5 and M6.

In general I'd say that the M3 is more 'at home' on any track, but more times than not it isn't faster than the M5/M6.

Definitely more bang for the buck in mod'ing an M3 though.

Fastest Non-Aero Euro; Presented by GMP Performance
Matt Mcbride #99 BMW M3 2:13.2

Fastest Showroom Stock
Matt Mullins #6 BMW M6 2:12.6

It doesn't mention what body style the GMP M3 was that won the fastest non aero euro cat ( I assumed it was an E92) , but the M6 was .6 seconds quicker. We both know how fast a modded track prepped E36 M3 is and the fact that a stock M6 on street tires beat it is impressive . Now that 550 hp modded NA E92 beast that ran a 1:59 is another animal all together lol .

Ha a VIR test session may be arranged .

A stock E92 or a stock 1M on stock rubber doesn't have a chance of running a 2:12 on the VIR full course . Modded is a different story entirely . The M6 comp is not a track car but the fact that it is a luxury GT that can perform on track as good as it does stock is amazing .

Not a phrase I've ever used with respect to modding any BMW. The M3 is meant to be more at home on the track... it's ~750lbs lighter than, for example, the F10.

It's definitely an e36.

In any case, 2:12 is a solid time for the M6 and faster than I expected. It's never been a track car, it's an autobahn car. That's a really fast time, particularly for street tires and >4000# in a car that offers every luxury.

It's not a phrase I've used before either, simply trying to state that if one has the intent to make their BMW more track capable, for the same gain you would likely spend less on the M3 than the M6.

There was also the intent to say that the current F13 M6, while still a luxury GT, has a more than respectable level of performance.

All of the above without trying to slight anyone or any car.

Just think, the next Advanced M School at VIR could be Matt teaching one to drive the M6 that fast...

I couldn't find an F12 video but this happens to be Matt leading an E63 M6 around VIR in a previous Advanced M School. Him driving the new M6 is 20 secs a lap faster! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmRaM22O7Ss
