Guys has anyone experience of turning off the active sound an if so does it make a difference (better or worse) , likewise any views on coding Active sound to a different sound track. Reason i ask is that i have a loaner I8 and must say it sounds great atleast inside anyway

I put an exhaust and with Active Sound it did not sound good. Disabled it and was a happy camper.

When you disconnect or remove the ASD module you hear less inside the cabin. You hear the actual sound of your car without the added soundtrack of fake engine sounds. If you want your exhaust to be louder you will have to get a full exhaust, downpipes, x-pipe, etc.

Yes, i tested it. It makes diffrents. My favorit Sound is the M5/M6.

I can choose between:

- M3/M4 Sound
- M5/M6 Sound
- Royce Rolls V12 Sound
- Turn off

The sound comes out from the speakers

I agree with prior comments. My background: My car was delivered to me with the Akrapovic and ASD on. I drove about 1 week with ASD on, and then disconnected it. I've driven a stock ZCP car with ASD on as well. With light and moderate throttle, interior cabin noise level is very similar with the ASD on with both Akrapovic and ZCP exhaust. And that noise level can be described as just "loud and all encompassing".

With aftermarket exhaust, IMO, there's a HUGE difference when you turn ASD off. The ASD was coded with the stock exhaust volume in mind. With a louder and unique sounding aftermarket exhaust, it feels like a lot of just random mismatched sound/noise competing with each other in the cabin.

It's hard to describe what the actual difference is. Cabin is certainly quieter with ASD off, but I also noticed the sound all comes from the rear and outside of the car. In other words, it's the true actual experience you're getting from the car's setup (interior sound deadening, windows, wind noise, road noise, exhaust noise). Whereas with the ASD on, I got the sense of "surround sound" related to the engine/exhaust, which made the cabin louder.

It takes some getting used to after disconnecting, but overall, I don't regret disconnecting it.

Here's the M5 discussion of ASD effects/opinions:

Disconnected the ASD in my 2014 M6 vert which is completely bog standard. Whilst the sound in the cabin is reduced slightly, I can now better hear the ACTUAL sound of the engine and exhaust! Much prefer it this way, personally...

My situation was similar to Flying Ace.

I recently bought a '13 F13 with a full Meisterschaft SGT Ti exhaust installed by the previous owner. The ASD caused such a terrible resonance - almost a phase - in the cabin at certain RPM/Load conditions, it nearly caused my head to explode.

Disabling it via Carly has greatly diminished the noise and the car is now much more pleasurable to drive.

Causing my head to explode is a fair representation. It was so loud and boomy in the cabin due to both exhaust and ASD noise...
