Id say LL04 for you in France

For Petrol
LL01 is still kept for countries that dont have good quality fuel.
France like most of Europe has good quality fuel so can use LL04 and LL12
LL12 is not approved for all engines.

Here we have too much sulphur in the fuel so have to use LL01

For Diesel
LL01 is not approved for cars with particulate filters (So most euro Diesels)
LL04 is approved for most
LL12 is only approved for some engines

BMW recommends LL04 for most current M Engines

Quote:
BMW Longlife-01 (BMW LL-01)
Special BMW approval for fully synthetic long-life oil. Product meets ACEA A3/B3 and API: SJ/CD EC-II. Usually required for BMWs built after MY 2002. Can also be used where a BMW Longlife-98 oil is recommended.

BMW Longlife-04 (BMW LL-04)

Special BMW approval for fully synthetic long-life oil. Viscosities are SAE 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 and 5W-40. Usually required for BMWs equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Can also be used where a BMW Longlife-98 or BMW Longlife-01 oil is recommended.

BMW Longlife-12 (BMW LL-12)
Special motor oil for certain approved gasoline engines and the following diesel engines only: Nx7K1, Nx7U1, Nx7O1 from model year 2013. Not suitable for engines with 2 or 3 turbos.

Yes, in France (and the rest of Europe) LL-04 is good for Petrol engines (and Diesel).

Buy from the BMW dealer (BMW Twin Power Turbo Oil), it is the new SHELL GTL oil inside the bottle and very good.

BMW Longlife-04 engine oils are approved for petrol engines only for the region Europe including Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein

It should be mostly the same
BMW may have added something to their version, but they do not say.

If it says BMW LL04 on the back of the bottle you should be good.

Yes
Here we only get BMW 5W-30 LL01 for petrol engines

0W is only needed in countries where the temperature goes below -20 °C
