Adaptive Drive

I currently have a 2011 e70 x5 50 m-sport with Adaptive Drive. I am looking at adding either a '12 or '13 650i xdrive and wanted to have the AD option. Was this a standard option or did it come with the m-sport package, or did you have to add the AD on top of everything? Could someone post a picture of where the AD ("sport") button is located? Any info would be appreciated.

I had Adaptive Drive on my 2012 X6 50i. Loved it.

For the 6-series, it is an add-on option and not part of M sport (was in 2014 for sure) and something like $3,500.

I test drove 2013 650xi GC and LOVED It - to me it was worth every penny.

My 2014 does not have it (bought off of dealer lot and very few dealers ever added this $$$ option to a car for stock). I miss it. A lot. I think I would like my car a lot more if it had Adaptive Drive.

As for the button, I'm not sure it has one. The best way to tell is to use the BMW VIN decoder (http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html) - it will be shown under options.

I have a 2013 with AD, and Dinan Shockware. There is no button, and I do not think AD can be had on Xdrive cars. I could be wrong, but that is what I thought I was told.

According to the website, AD can be had with xDrive. At least on 2016s.

It is Active Steering that can't be had on the AWD cars - except for the X5/X6. Too bad - I love that option!

Thanks everyone for the replies. It sounds like there is no button for Adaptive Drive on the F12 & F13 6 series. This makes sense because as i'm browsing the web for CPOs I never seem to find a button in any of the photos. My '11 X5 50 has a button near the shifter which activates the AD. I guess the only way to determine if a car is equipped with the option is to decode the VIN. Oh well.

That button just firms up the suspension a bit - Active Drive is always "Active"

Now you've got me confused. There is nothing called Active Drive. There is Adaptive Drive and there is Active Steering.

My question is, does the 2012-2014 650i xdrive have a button to engage the ADAPTIVE DRIVE? If so, where is this button located.

Sorry, was rushing the response.. Adaptive Drive is always ON - you can't "turn it off". On the X6/X5 it did however come with the ability to firm up the suspension a bit, but that was not turning it on/off. The manual had very little info on that.

Same for the 650 - it is always on. I had read that the driving modes (comfort, comfort plus, eco, sport, etc.) were different on adaptive drive (no comfort plus?) however, someone recently said that was not the case. The best way to tell is by the VIN of the car.

Just to help clear up any remaining confusion, I have a '14 650 x-Drive GC M-Sport Edition with Adaptive Drive. As Doug said, the AD is always on with no button to control it an any way. On the driving modes, it does have all 5 modes (Eco+, Comfort, Comfort+, Sport, and Sport+). Love AD and have had it in multiple manufacturer's iterations (BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti, etc) on my last 5 cars. Definitely worth the $$ IMO.

ad is the reason to buy 5 and 6 series. in the older models the ad was in the sport package[2007]. in the newer models its a stand along option.
